Enabling magma forges for vs. 40d9
« on: October 13, 2009, 05:09:05 am »

Hey, I used the Reveal tool for my human civ and now I can't make mama forges. I went through the utilities page at the wiki but they are all outdated and do not work. :(

Can someone recommend something?

Wall off the Magma tube from the rest of your fort so that it's hidden and reclaim?

for future referance, when you embark on a location. Back up the save before using Reveal.

Once you use reveal, export the local image, leave the map, and delete that particular save so your fortress is started on teh back up copy. (and for further fun you can backup the backup.)

I tried a possible solution but sadly failed. For reference:
I copied the save to a vanilla 40d installation and used Gibbed's Tweak and specifically the enable magma buildings module. That let me build magma buildings there in the vanilla, but saving and copying it back (to 40d16 in this case) lost me the ability again. Though the magma buildings I build stayed, of course.

What you can do is use Tweak to make a section of magma hidden from view then channel a piece of rock on the side to "reveal" the magma pipe.

I did that for my first HFS.

I have tried to use Tweak but it does not work for me.

i think tweak works for 40d (but don't quote me) or if not for some earlyer but save compatible version it should ... so just take that version, copy your save, enable magma, copy back and it should be ok

The magma building enable provided by Tweak is not persistent - once you run it, you have to build all of your magma workshops before you save and exit, since the option to build them will be gone once you reload.

That seems strange to me, how does it work on a map with magma where reveal hasn't been used then?

Presumably, the Tweak tool that enables magma buildings doesn't do it the same way the game does - it just sets the "can build magma buildings" flag rather than the "discovered a magma pipe or pool" flags (which apparently haven't been located).

Does the cover all magma, abandon, reclaim, rediscover approach work in this case?
