I haven't read many of the stories, but the captive white gal in question probably reminded old mate Conan of his ex the pirate queen whose death he never really got over.

For such a fearless, hulking barbarian sword-slaughterer from the frozen north the dude was really quite an angsty basket case deep down. Sheesh.

Whether stories like Dances With Wolves or Pocahontas or The Last Samurai are accurate, they're a lot more palatable as big-budget films nowadays than "a white army slaughters an indigenous people for profit, is widely celebrated, and suffers no consequences for doing so."

Ah yes, the "white savior" movies.

Ironically the Last Samurai is actually more of a White Hurter movie in that it literally depicts the Americans coming to Japan with the New Western Way vs the Old Japanese Way and portrays the former as wrong

Yeah Last Samurai often gets lumped in there but it pretty clearly isn't. Tom Cruise isn't the titular Samurai.

It does depict the white army slaughtering indigenous people for profit, though.

Yes but in Avatar the human is the one who saves the day

In Samurai the human is the one who trains the Westo-Japanese Army, then goes native, then gets killed together with all the Last Samurais by the Westo-Japanese Army he trained as it ruins their metaphorical day

He doesn’t get killed.

He does do dirty things to the wife of a man he kills though.

I'm sorry, but...

Are you saying Tom Cruise isn't human?

...actually you might have a point there... 🤔

Dammit, my anti-Japano bias is showing through again

No but seriously I hope everyone realises it was a mistake from repeating the structure of the previous sentence.

Doesn't he do the death charge with the rest of the samurai at the end of the movie? That's how I remember it ending.

Yes but bullets dont touch him. He helps the samurai leader kill himself and then he goes on to keep doing sex things with the widow of the man he killes at the beginning of the movie

I'm so done with university. Scheduling conflicts, bugged online slot reservations, module convenors who think their 10 credit module needs a project the size of a thesis, module convenors who think the history of JavaScript is the reason I'm taking an advanced course in compilers...

I want to get out so badly right now.
