Discord people know but my life is imploding in about twelve different ways.
Hoping you feel better, man.

I think the waves are finally receding because yesterday I spoke with my wife. Things are getting better I think.

Well it was marital stuff, on top of sex stuff, with a good helping of a missing friend, then a friend lost her mind and got taken away, then I thought my wife was cheating, on top of being the most depressed I've ever been.

It wasn't a fun week.

Ssssooo. Revisiting my job woes. Strictly speaking working in either Ireland or Spain... both have their pros and cons. But the details of those pros and cons is not the issue.

I've been crunching some numbers, and, just like I felt that my last employers in Ireland weren't being solid with me... I suspect my current one in Spain isn't either.

Basically, the way the department works, what they promised me, as was promised, doesn't make any sense. Because there are already two people doing it, here. And realistically speaking, you don't need three. Moreover, looking at the organigram the impression I get is that my role (and that of a couple more people in similar circumstances) is actually to remain as a polyvalent pool of specialists, to cover gaps.

Mind you, this is not a horrid fate and it's actually standard fare for young consultants in large hospitals. And they might make some token attempt to fulfill their promise insofar as providing me (more or less limited) experience in what they promised. I'm not going to run away all of a sudden. But I'll keep on the lookout for jobs elsewhere, both in Spain and Ireland (whenever the job market in Ireland defrosts that is. Things have been dry in 2019). Because I don't feel specially bound. I think I'll be here for the next six months under any scenario, and if they do some attempt to minimally fulfill their promises probably anything from a year to 18 months. But more than that... I'd need a good reason to stay.

I have the world's most annoying cough and I think I ate something too spicy/dodgy recently and so I've been dealing with that as well. Dx

I almost-accidentally cut a large portion of sugar from my diet.

Oh gods my head.

I'm watching people I care about tear themselves to pieces and there's not much I can do to stop it.

You could tell them. But if you do, it has to be Tommy Wiseau style. Especially if there's a Lisa amongst them.

No Lisas, sadly. And I am trying to talk with them, but the tricky part is finding a time and way of doing that which won't make things worse.

Also I think my hair might be thinning. Just in time for turning 30!

People need to make the mistake before they learn. Only thing you can do is to be there for them and help them pick up their pieces. That's when they'll need you the most.
