The worst part is that you can't tell who they are without investing time in getting to know them.

Why would the menu system in Aurora upset a DF player?
Aurora is like... DF x 500
I didn't find it nearly as engaging. DF just has that...something. It makes emotional connections that Aurora can't.

It has procedurally generated city-demolishing riots that can spark from the mere death of a kitten.  Sociological domino effects and emotional rollercoasters that unfold unpredictably before your eyes.
Yeah, people in Aurora only riot over normal boring things like slowly suffocating to death because there isn't enough life support, because they don't have a friendly fleet overhead, and because they're under the boot of tyrannical xenos (or, more likely, they're xenos scum under the heel of your just and enlightened boot). Or on a smaller scale, because their ship has been deployed for so long that almost everything is broken and they're slowly running out of supplies. Or because a ship with quarters for all ten of her crew rescued seventy eight survivors from life pods and is on a ten month voyage back towards friendly space.

And on that note…

It appears the trouble's with my mom have reached a level where I don't think they can be dealt with.  I don't know what I'm going to do. She has been threatening consitiently to have me declared a juvenile delinquint, and turn me over to the courts, and even if she doesn't(when she is upset she lies through her teeth), the current situation is untenable.

So, barring a significant development in the next few days, I'm going to leave home on wenseday. I don't know where I'll go or what I'll do (or what I CAN do on a less then highschool education), all I know is I can't go on like this.

Anyway, outside of that depressing note, I've tried Aurora and had a lot of fun with it, but those menums man. At least in Df if nothing is getting done you can tell. And in DF the midgets at least seem to be competent at doing something before you start. Ship design scares me.

Allow me to give you some advice that I got from my mom. (She was a run away for a long time)

1. Don't do any hardcore drugs,
and 2. Don't get pregnant (or knock anyone up). Actually, unprotected sex is probably a bad idea in general.

For some reason, this is literally the best thing someone could have said. It made me laugh.

No, whatever my faults I wouldn't take drugs. And I don't realistcally see me having sex for a while (though not for lack of effort). Trust me on those points.

Buskers.(bah, ninja'd) But yeah, probably check and see where and about the homeless shelters are, food kitchens, that sort of thing. Just in case.

Honestly, turning yourself over to the courts might be more viable. Not sure about NY, but down here there's halfway houses and stuff like that for folks that are ditching home for various reasons before they're really able to take care of themselves. Look around, maybe get in touch with the school counselor or something. There may be resources you can tap to make things less troublesome for the interim.

I haven't played Aurora.  Glanced at it at one point, and was quickly overwhelmed.  Sounds awesome, though.

It's approximately 3,622 parts planning, logistics, numbers, and waiting to 1 part awesome, but the awesome is worth it. It's even better when you start loving the management for its own sake, but that's another addiction topic entirely.  :P

It feels unethical to be able to complete a final project for psych class in a day and get an A on it. Like either I or the instructor or both are doing something wrong.
