I (mostly) blame the lack of gender neutral pronouns in English.
S/h/it?

My gender-neutral pronoun of choice from now on shall be "shit".

Most people on the internet already call each other "shit".

Damn.  English is a more functional language than I realized!

It's likely 'they' is going to become a sanctioned singular pronoun in the near-ish future.

I wonder why English's masculine default evolved into being not default...

Feminists: more influential to our language than Shakespeare? More at 11.

HAHAHA

No, I think Shakespeare is why we're saying "they" instead of "he or she," but I'm pretty sure the reason why we're moving off "he" as default is because of feminist stuff.

And here I thought feminists were all about equality. :p

Personally, I can't really understand the English-specific aversion to 'he' as a default. Romance languages seem to be perfectly content with using the masculine versions of verbs until proven incorrect... It's just a grammar construct x3

Then again, English doesn't make the most sense linguistically by a far shot.

I've usually assumed people use "he" or "she" as base depending on their own gender.

Which brings up horrible implications in my mind.

This better not be one of those days where it turns into endless hipster whining about how stuff was better before x, or was ruined forever by some miniscule change.

Given that my whole scenario about "Why people dislike when their things become popular" could occur between a single generation and often can be entirely transformed and unrecognizable.

I am going to go no.

Not everyone cares about superficial details and when it comes to things like that I tend to be much more fair then most people.

This better not be one of those days where it turns into endless hippy whining about how people have actual attachments to things.
