Humans are designed to survive in their environment. If that means punching a bison, so be it.

Ok, let me paraphrase that: "Human lacks innate ability, both physical and mental, to bring down the prey bare-handed in efficient way like wildlife pradators do."
Better? :P
I'd also beg to differ :P

The instincts are there, people are just trained to ignore them from a very young age.

Again, no, endurance hunting is a thing. Basically chasing a deer until it dies of exhaustion. Humans are surprisingly tough.

Eh, you know what - I was just trying to say your average, untrained, white-collar family-man could not compare to, say, tiger, when it comes to catching and taking down it's prey.
Dammit guys.  :P

... I've, it's definitely an aside, but I've long wondered, Gig: Do you folks catch much flak because of the name? I mean, it's like two letters off and the pronunciation near identical...

Read my sig, and know the answer. Most people misspell it, but I don't really mind. People who know my real name always seem to call me something else as well.

So really there's no change.
... just to make sure, you did notice I was asking about shotacon karate, right?

No... not in the slightest. I guess child porn isn't the first thing that comes to mind for most people. Never even heard anyone make a reference to the two together. So congrats, I guess. You successfully think of child porn when a type of karate is mentioned.

Far as I know, shotokan comes from Shoto, one of the founder's pen names, meaning pine waves or something, and kan, meaning style
Shoto's style.

Nothing to do with shotacon at all.

When I practiced gensei-ryū back in my day, our website adress was one letter different from site dedicated to gay hentai. This, of course, caused much hilarity when new members tried to check it out.

Care to share any link relevant to that?
This is something I was not aware of and frankly find it quite surprising, but I'm willing to learn.
Unless you mean marathon-like running.

Yeah, marathon style. Few creatures can match us jogging wise.

I disagree with the idea that humans were made for hunting/fighting. That is something that we developed over the years due to our need for proteins and other nutrients which could be more easily attained through the ingestion of meat, our brain did that, so now we have weapons.

Also, most human instincts (especially the ones activated during a rush of adrenaline) are directed towards escape. We DO have means of defending ourselves, but they are not the primary approach of a normal human being.

And about martial arts, nowadays they are seen more as a sport, so usually they are taught with the preconception of being used as such, in octagons and such (even though senseis and masters may say otherwise).

I've had my share of fights with people who trained martial arts (troubled childhood/teenagerhood) and i've learned through these that most fighting styles are taught within a situational range, if martial artists are caught out of their situational sphere (if they have no opportunity to use their moves) they'll be at least 50% more vulnerable.
Also: Fear activates our "RUN" instincts, which makes anyone involuntarly give a lot of opportunity to an enemy.

Ah, that I am aware of. "Outrun" is a rather broad therm so I was really wondering under what conditions could a man outrun a dog.
Though sled dogs come to mind when we talk about marathon too so there's that.

We weren't made for hunting, but developed it over the years... that's evolving towards being able to hunt, isn't it?

Most animals, if they feel they're outmatched ,will try to flee. That's basic survival, really.
