Not that gametes would have helped >_> You'd only have half the DNA you need!

Parthenogenesis, then. Use it.

I was going to get her flowers and chocolates, but since I can say for certain now that that's overkill, I'd still like to get her a little something. I figure a smaller box of chocolates(the one I originally wanted to get was about 8" in diameter). My sister also suggested a small teddy bear with a friendly(not "I love you") card. Any other ideas would help.

Nothing.  Get her absolutely nothing.  No matter what you get her it's going to be seen as a romantic overture/Valentine's Day Gift, which she's indicated she doesn't want with you right now.

(She might be interested in you, but she's not Valentine's Day Interested yet)

What about paying for her seat at the movie? Still too much?

Maybe. A friendly day/evening out (with more people than just her) where everyone pays for their own tickets would probably be fine.

They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Still too much, because what you're trying to express right now is not "I like you romantically" but "I respect what you told me."  So, he shouldn't be cold (because she'll think he's trying to punish and manipulate her), but stuff in the domain of "giving folks gifts" is out.

Kaijyuu's suggestion of asking other people and having everyone pay for their own tickets is the right one.  In fact, Akura could ask her if she has any friends she'd like to invite along as well.

Okay, that makes sense. I would never suggest being cold or rude just because romance might not happen.
And +1 to kaijyuu's suggestion as well.

Sorry, I didn't mean it like that--just that friendly overtures can be misinterpreted, and the question is what's okay and what's not okay within friendliness.  There's a sweet zone he needs to get himself into.

So it's looking more and more like I won't be able to afford to keep attending college. Both my unremarkable grades and increasing financial stress on my parents seems to be pushing that way. I really like it, but even if I do manage to do really well this semester and the next, there is a strong possibility I won't be able to get a seat in the professional division.

The worst part is that I think a part of me has already given up. I spent almost 45 minutes looking into forklift certification yesterday, even though I'm in bad shape physically. But that's another can of worms.

Fuck. I fell on some ice and sprained my ankle really bad this morning, had to go to the hospital and now I'm pretty much a cripple who can't walk for the next two days. Fucking assholes and their icy porches.

These days I've become cognizant of the fact that I'm kind of a mean person.

My threshold for stress has been terribly low, and even moreso lately than usual. Just today, I broke down over some player being difficult on a Minecraft server that I moderate >.>

Someday, you'll learn that sometimes you have to be mean. Then you will become me.

I'm already aware of that, but the problem is that over my teenage years I became reflexively mean and withdrawn, even towards people I like or have no reason to have anything against. The best I can usually manage is stoic neutrality, it takes truly unusual circumstances for me to act in a positive way. I almost can't stop doing it, which is what lead to this post. Hard to make friends when I tell them off. I wasn't always like this.
