And since we're talking sad, here's mine:
Quote
It's honestly very sad, you know? Wonderfully educated, good-natured, kind people calling each other scum just because some hate NATO more than Putn and vice versa. I am saying this because two of my friends just had a shouting match about whether the Ukrainian protesters are "degenerates", and the one who supported the Maidan very quickly switched from defending the ukrainians to insulting Putin. Her opponent started doing the same, but with Europe and the USA. They ended spilling their drinks on each other, and the anti-ukrainian is now having a hate smoke outside.

Why this shallowness and rigidity of mind? They both read philosophy and Bulgakov. Why do they still think that all ukrainians are with the USA and all russians are with Putin?
I am quoting myself from another thread.

Sad: I'm getting to know more about the human nature each day! It's not a sad-sad but more of an 'I'm getting to know this and some of my preconceptions are being changed-not shattered, but they're adapting. Hmm' way.
Yeah, I know what you mean.

I've never experienced snow in my life. Is it as beautiful and as terrifying as it really seems to be from the news and Tv?
I'd once like to experience a snowday and know the sense of fluffy, crunchy, hard, slippery, wet, dry and crumbly snow.
Snow seems beautiful. Especially snowflakes.

Also..is snow, erm, as cold as ice? As in, if Ice is the solid form of water (frozen) then...snow is..?

Snow is terrifying.  My friend from Texas assures me this video is accurate.

Sad: realizing how few friends I have at my school.

Ah well, I'll try and find some more people I can relate with there...

At least I learned a new expression: Hate smoke. Now I just need to befriend some smokers...

In my experience, school is just a big block of 'why bother'.
Max of what... 3000 kids?
Meanwhile big universities have some completely unsourced number like 30000
That's 10x the number of people, hypothetically!
Therefore, the odds of finding people you like are substantially bigger.

Therefore- screw liking people in school. Study your ass off and don't have friends, and then you can make up for lost time at college.

Study your ass off and don't have friends,
Ignore this guy. I tried it and it was horrible. Neither studying nor making friends is best.

^ This is a lie.

You can study so hard it kills your social life and still have friends.
I know.
I lived 2 years of this, until now. >.>

Though I am in college...Wherein you should do such if you really want something out of it (well, pursuit of knowledge for me, anyways.)
It's really dependent on your environment and no one general statement can conclude what is best.

Not studying and having friends can be nice too, if you don't really need/want to study.

Nah, just means you've got the kinds of friends who'll stick around even though you put no effort into the relationship.

Not studying and having friends can be nice too.
Yeah, but it's about numbers.
Amount of school friends who are around for life? Few. Amount of college friends who are? More.
And they're assorted according to their degrees, which is chosen according to your interests.
Like Tech? Meet people at MIT.*
Like Law? Meet people at Harvard.*

Just a good idea all round.

*American universities are used as the standard here because most people on the forum know of these universities. I do not endorse nor condone a student internationally attending an American college

Eh? Err, sure.

But what I mean is, you can easily greet other people around, do those tiny acts of kindness that don't take muchly any time at all, tiny snips of niceness or smiles and thank yous at others and even a good morning/afternoon/evening to your friends.

They understand you're busy studying. You understand they're busy studying. And when someone honors their duty, that's an inspiration.

...I'm derailing the sad thread.

So apparently one of my classmates' health situation is so poor that he's going to get individual teaching and won't be going to school until the end of the year and possibly even longer.
And that's kinda sad, since I like that guy, even though he's even less social than me (and that should be saying something) and got picked on a lot.

I just hope that he gets on well at some point, but at the same time I'm kinda worried about the worst case scenario.
Then again, I am a very paranoid person, I feel, so take what I say with a pinch of salt.

You should tell him that you're sad he's in that situation. Empathy can make a huge difference.
