More sads: Not being sure if a PM I sent went through or not, and having to wait for the other person to respond to find out.
Also I really need to get around to actually getting work done instead of sitting around accomplishing nothing.

God is just a benevolent version of Cthulhu, slumbering galaxies away, completely unaware of our existence. Woe to any who wake him, for he shall step across the light-years in a manner of hours and wrap up humanity in rapturous bliss, transforming us into a peaceful slave-race based on tolerance, welfare and compassion. So terrible will his morality be that the evil upon our world shall immediately die of shame, and the good shall immediately burst into tears of joy... and then burst. Billions of souls gobbled up in a single terrifying instant and kept in eternal ecstasy.

I don't see why God can't be the Devil. That'd explain all that talk about trials and temptation.
Pretty sure this is close to canon. The bible doesn't say that Satan is a devil with horns and lives in a flaming Hell; in fact, he asks God's permission to put Job through trials.
I thought Satan was an angel who didn't want to deal with humans against God's orders. So he just kind of pissed off and did very little of note.

I don't think I like a God that doesn't care personally. Sounds rather arrogant.
That's not arrogance. It's only arrogance if you have good reason to care.
But when the things you're supposedly meant to care about are little collections of numbers in a simulation it's hardly arrogant to not care about their wellbeing.

True. Then, to counter, I don't want to worship a computer to which my worship makes no odds whatsoever.

I don't worship Dwarf Fortress. Most of the time.

I would not want to be the one to clean that up.

Actually, since the work wifi modem went missing, nothing else has gone missing yet.
It's concerning.

From what I heard, one day when I wasn't working, one of my co-workers was taken out of the building in handcuffs by the police, and the managers just got on the phone to find someone to take his place for the day, and complained that it looked bad in front of customers.

Man, this conversation is reminding me just how long it's been since I've contemplated or even cared about any of this.
Personally, I think I'm starting to lean closer to reincarnation at this point, but that's off-topic.

On the God debate, I think I believe more so in the "God doesn't intervene" category. Not that God doesn't care, just that nothing is done about it.
Most of our problems are man-made.
Most of how we fix it is man-made.
God does care, but he does not intervene when we can actually fix it, is the adage there.

As a counterpoint, humans understand that fire=danger.

Hm.

This made me think; in future Dwarf Fortress, this problem will probably be gone. But, there will also be many versions of Dwarf Fortress by that point. All the different releases may be seen as prototypes. So, Dwarf Fortress Parallel universes, moving forwards in time until perfection. Evolution, if you will.

So, is our universe merely a prototype of some unfathomable being? And, if we are constantly being updated with new versions (Ours probably being out of date by now) will the end result be the final step in the journey to heaven?
If you've ever read Anathem, the eventual reveal is
Spoiler: MAJOR spoiler, so... (click to show/hide)

Edit: Tir, most of our problems are natural, not man-made. Most deaths, for example, are from things like heart attack and cancers and disease, not war or murder or accidents. So yeah, not man-made, and very very difficult to cure by man. Loooots of unnecessary suffering, there~ And that doesn't include non-fatal suffering, either!
