Why the heck is your room in the basement? One doesn't usually think of the basement as a living space.
My bed is in the guest bedroom closet.

I actually get a bed to myself down here, and it's far away from everyone else.
Closet? Wtf? Or do you just mean that it's stored in there?

Basement? I've never even seen a house with a basement.
Think of it as a 2nd floor underground. :P
I know what it is, I just always associated it with commercial/industrial buildings. Like an underground carpark, or boiler room, or something.

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

Socializing isn't bad, but what they do is bring me upstairs and then everyone else goes off and does their own things (reading, computer games, watching movies) while I sit on the couch alone. No one talks to me. But that's what they make me do in an attempt to force me into not being depressed anymore.
Protip. Making people feel ignored is not how you cure depression.

Also sorry for prodding but by 'talking', you included the topic of why exactly you were depressed, and the cause, and why it makes you depressed, aye? :O I mean given that a cause is 'screaming from parents', that is very sure to get them to listen.
Yes, and every time I try to talk about it, I just end up getting yelled at because my mom doesn't think she could be doing anything wrong, and it's all my fault and I'm bringing it on myself. So I go nowhere but down. Every time it just gets worse.

No, I sleep with my bed in the closet.

Most city residential homes in the US have basements. They're often primarily for storage, or keeping the washing machine and furnace in, but as long as you can keep it dry "finished" basements are very popular. I always assumed this was universal.

I'm in a basement right now. It has nice carpeting. I just realized that we added carpeting because we had to take the tile out because there was flooding. Oh my. At least this time, if there is a flood, we'll have mold instead of the asbestos it turned out I had been sleeping with for a while...

...Most houses have basements?

I don't have one. If I did, I'd move all my shit from my room to there, because this room is too small, even without all my stuff.

Not really a thing in Aus/NZ, at least. Probably the warmer-on-average weather means folks don't feel the need to take advantage of the thermal mass in the ground?

I think I just saw my life as I know it dissolve right before my eyes.

I also just broke into my dormitory's computer suite. What do you know, the internet still works at midnight.

Maybe I'm overreacting, but I just went over all the spectrums of my emotions and started hallucinating and losing my sense of reality.
Good thing I'm not the sort of person who have panic attacks, otherwise I'd be pretty dead or something.

Oh lord you're the second person this month I know to have gone through something like that D: it sounds absolutely shitty to lose your sense of reality.

I actually bawled and shouted myself out, and now all is left is a sense of dull shock.

On the plus side, I exploded so bad that I am now starting to formulate escape plans and my mind is working on overdrive in accounting for all the problems that I have encountered, so with enough luck the moment I wake up tomorrow I will be rapidly solving everything except for the fact that I still got robbed.
