Got kicked out of blackjack class today. Five 65-hour weeks (twenty-five of which was unpaid) wasted. For no good reason other than that "you're not friendly enough, even though I can tell you're barely able to stay awake for these classes".

...is such a thing possible?
I'm not actually sure.

...is such a thing possible? She's one of the chillest people I know.

I actually knew someone like her at school. Only time I saw HER pissed off was when someone made a mildly racist joke and then she went back to being calm within five minutes and was talking to the person like nothing had happened.

Hmm, let's see.

Tiruin, we live in an utterly subjective world in which all actions are ultimately meaningless. Any good act, any hopeful thought, is ultimately transient and (much like each individual of the human race) doomed to either idealistic or physical death. All is meaningless.

Actually, not sure if that's me trying to invoke despair or not, but it's all I could come up with on the theme of "make Tiruin angry."

Unless....anyone up for racist remarks? :P

Got fired. Apparently new people who give 2 weeks notice like I did (going back to school,) or try to take time off, generally have some reason found to fire them by the end of the day. I can see why they do it, honestly, someone new is fairly easy to replace and may not care too much about their work for their last days. Being out before I'm ready is really inconvenient, but I can't really say I'll miss the place either.

How legal is that? I thought that there were things in place to stop employers doing things like that.

Don't trust the therapists, they're all the same. And evil.
I get what you're saying but I tend to make sweeping generalisations based off of past experiences, it's probably one of my faults.

This is an at-will job with no union and I don't belong to a protected group, so no. Even if I did care to pursue anything I have pretty much zero recourse.

...Is it too late to try hooker class instead?

Seriously though, that really sucks. Can't you plead your case to them?

Precisely. We had actually completed the course material, and were getting ready for the skill interview when the instructor told me I wouldn't be allowed to continue. I'll have a word with his superiors, but my only real recourse is to breeze the lrough the next class in a few months time. If, that is, I haven't left the casino industry altogether. The pay is crappy and the hours suck for non-gaming positions you, even though the environment and amenities are pretty nice.

So. Another person I know--great-uncle, I believe--is going to die. He's not dead yet, but might as well be.

I... I barely got to know him. I've only met him twice. Our family was going to go down and visit him and his wife this summer.

He was a good man. :(

I'm about to go pursue higher education in Germany. Yet, why do I still feel so stagnant?

I don't know how to express my frustration at my mediocrity.

Not certain about stagnancy, but you aren't mediocre, especially if you're heading overseas for studies.

I'm still bitter about it. But thank you.
