Sprinkled's a Russian, though, so the "two-party system" rant's kinda moot. As someone who's also Russian and leans towards Socialism (I'm not an USSR apologist/tankie, however), I have my own criticisms of our system, but alas, criticism equals disrespect towards the government, and being disrespectful towards it is very bad and no good.

Ah, my apologies. I assumed sprinkled chariot was referring to the American electoral system and claiming that it was rigged just because the Republicans and Democrats are both well-entrenched and limiting other parties' access to power.
I'm Russian myself, so calling the American/British system rigged sounded to me like a wild exaggeration of the term. Hence the (misplaced, as it turns out) rant.

Still, there's hope that Ukraine might move away from the populist-fest common in young democracies and slowly change into something healthier. Some other Eastern European countries are going in that direction, after all.

Yeah, America's not rigged. At least not in that sense, though who gets to be the nominee for each party is a bit more rigged (sometimes).

Also, interestingly enough, in American politics at least most candidates actually do try to follow through on their campaign promises. They don't actually succeed a lot of the time, due to both politics and reality getting in the way, but the concept that all politicians are just lying to get elected doesn't hold as true at people think.

I've read this a few times, but here is one article about it

Everything I do feels futile. I spend all week exhausted, angry and miserable because I'm wasting my life for money, and my reward is I get to spend maybe a day with my fiancee, the only normal person that actually listens to me in a thirty-mile radius. Said maybe-a-day-at-most is the only time I get to take care of myself and do things that make me feel like a person. Otherwise it's just dipshit customers, my family that can barely manage to survive as a group let alone individuals, and coworkers that expect me to do everything for them because I'm the only person in our entire group that acts with a sense of goddamn urgency.

My dad couldn't be asked to, y'know, be my dad, but some days I think the least he could have done is wear a condom instead of conceiving me.

Random thought: I can't wait until every store, everywhere, is 100% self-checkout. The people who scream "I'll never use self check!!!" will have to put up or shut up, and the meltdowns will be awesome to see.

They'll probably keep rolling them out, whether or not the machines work correctly, or in any logical fashion. I forsee a massive spike in thefts when people get tired of the terrible machines.

In my experience, the employees spend at least as much time at the self-check machines as they do at the cashier-check, just because people cannot effectively interact with a self-checkout without fucking up either A) Something or B) Everything.

I should know, I've done it myself.

It's true. Faced with any scenario where they have to read and/or push a button, most customers will just call me over and point at the screen. The entire store was nearly brought to a halt one time when a simple yes/no question utterly baffled 90% of customers, who could not figure out how to read two sentences nor touch the screen.

You know, I think there's untapped potential here for truly automated, choiceless shopping. Just hide everything but the card swipe machines, charge them a random amount per swipe and dispense a sack filled with whatever merchandise is handy. If anyone asks, say it's all done with AI. That's almost all there needs to be, too. No bathroom; the bathroom doors will remain, but instead be the termini of a small labyrinth. There will also need to be an employees only door, but it will of course be freestanding.

Now, this will require some adjustment, but we can handle it by replacing the complaints departments with a row of mannequins that repeat whatever is said to them on a subsecond delay in a really mocking tone of voice.

My own sad: I've come down with something pyrogenic and it's apparently driven me utterly mad.

If anyone asks, say it's all done with AI.

"It's based on a complicated self-correcting choice algorithm."

Complicated self-correcting choice algorithm:

Code: [Select]
quantity <- random number less than 1000
items <- random selection of [quantity] items from stock

if [customer dissastisfied]
    choose new random seed
else do nothing

Approximately random number generation is a relatively sophisticated problem, so it's not untrue that the algorithm is complex!
