I think my car might be nearing it's death. A mechanic has told me two vital parts could give out at any time, the water pump or the head gasket, and one is expensive, and the other is really expensive, so effectively it's death for my poor 2003 Pontiac. Right now it's leaking coolant at an uncomfortable rate. It's had a good life and has served me well.

You could buy the water pump and change it yourself. Heck if we were living near eachother I would do it for you for free or for a cold beer.

The head gasket shouldn't be that much costly really, I mean the part itself and the silicon. Now replacing it migth be time consuming but it shouldn't be all that much. You remove the cilinder head, remove the old gasket, clean the border, apply the silicon glue, put the new gasket and place the cilinder head again.

Not that it doesn't have some science behind it but a short youtube tutorial should put you on the rigth direction.

I honestly know very little about cars, I look at an engine and I get scared. However, I suppose I'll  have a lot of time on my hands in the near future, so I can probably devote time to raise my car literacy from nonexistent to practical; once the weather warms up enough that just being outside doesn't hurt.

A buddy of mine crashed his motorcycle and then rebuilt it by watching youtube videos. If you have time and a place to work, the costs go down considerably.

No, more like I have the feeling they have other candidates in mind.

I might actually get something closer to home if covid hits anyone in the haem department... I mean the way things go they're quarantining both infectees and close workmates and I'm first on Basque hiring lists so if blood takes a hit....

But the idea was to try to head back to Ireland. I feel kind of.... its hard to explain
