I seem to have accidentally atom-smashed my Duchess - and I don't mean "accident" in the figurative sense, she just happened to be standing in the wrong place when I closed up my fort for a siege.

This being my first fort, I really wanted to play around with the nobility as much as I could rather than kill them off.  So, will I ever get a replacement Duchess?  Do I need to arrange an "accident" (figurative sense) for the Duchess's consort before I'm considered for a replacement?

To my knowledge, the only irreplaceable nobles are the monarch (king/queen) and the liaison. Everyone else will come back, though you'll get a second consort when the new Baron(ess) arrives.

my suggestion would be to kill off all your nobles, as your duchess dying was clearly a sign from Armokk for you to ritualistically purge your blue bloods.

Yes, do be sure to get rid of her consort.  When the new pair arrive, he will still be there and he will still be making demands.

I guess Derakon's reply answered a question of mine, about losing a Liaison.

I won't do it with my current fort since I'm already close to my population cap (and not receiving immigrants anymore... The last wave was only 5, and that was almost two years ago, and before that was a long drought too.  I know I'm not at 200 yet, so maybe my civ is dying).  But it sounds like there's actually a lot of interest for this, so maybe I'll set up a second install and try it.

I have to get back to work, but check the stories thread later and I'll have something up for it then.

Ack, to get fifty consorts, you need to wait through fifty immigration waves. I.E., fifty years. Do you have the patience for that?
