[every dwarf in the fortress] cancels Dump Item: Drop-off inaccessible

I tried to get my dwarves to drop a bunch of rocks down a bottomless pit, and it's worked until now, but they've all stopped. I tried widening the entrance to the pit, removing and rezoning the dump site, and putting another dump site on my bridge across a chasm. Nothing works.

What happened?

is your bottomless pit open to the air? if so, are your dwarfs set to not go outside?

I was going to say that maybe you accidentially changed the outside/inside orders, but already answered.
