Dwarfs born from the earth?

My fort just got an immigration wave (yay, Dungeon Master. Boo, dead FPS)

They include a father and a child. No mother listed.

Does this happen often? And how the heck did the child get born?

I bet the mothers either commited scuicide or was killed and/or eaten by something.

Either that or the immigrants are divorced parents with children.

Normal immigrants are generated when they arrive. They don't exist before appearing on your map. So if a child and one parent arrived the child wouldn't have another parent listed because they don't actually exist.

I would ask "what kind of self-respecting dwarf would mate with an elf", but then I remembered, dwarves don't have any self-respect. Why else would they let a noble ask for glass items on a map with no sand? If they had self-respect, it'd be Dwarf Revolution! /rant]
