I wanted to inform you that I may be slowing down or coming to a point of temporary hiatus ATM.

It's because I have recently got things that have come up. Both in RL and the internet. I can't explain to you what it is. But I'm very hyped because I may be getting invoved in a very interesting project in the future, but can't confirm anything yet. But when I do I will probably announce it here. (Because it's Touhou related)

Also, I would like to point out, I'm already making plans to make Kosuzukkuri (From Forbidden Scrollery). But other than that, I'm quite busy at the moment. So once again... I apologize.

So, you all know I disappeared following the game thread I held back late last Summer. You all must be wondering what has become of Suika Fortress?

Well worry no more. Let Totaku explain the details to you since some of you may not be aware of some things I do...

For starters, following the game, I've been working on another project, if you're familiar with Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, then it should be made clear that I have mod I work on for that one as well. And yes it's Touhou themed too. I learned there's been lots of changes since the last time I held it so I'm currently focusing on that for the time being.

Also if you haven't already heard. ZUN is actually making plans to come to the US to attend AWA this September. This has taken me by surprise because I did not anticipate him coming here. But since I live about a 2 states from Georgia, I'm very tempted to go there. Because of this, I'm also under taking a "special project" that may eat up alot of my time. Let's just say the project I'm trying to plan is something I want to consider for AWA to celebrate ZUN's arrival here in the US.

Because of these two factors that currently are happening, you must be wondering will I doing more Suika Fortress?

The answer to this is, yes, but the problem is when? As I'm very tied up with these current projects I noticed I haven't paid attention to Suika Fortress, but I want to let those who are fans of the mod know. I'm still here. The problem is I may be rather tied up since I'm VERY BUSY working on my other project and getting a project ready for AWA.

I'm hoping somewhere in between I'll be able to put together something for Suika Fortress, but considering what's going on ATM. My hunch is I probably won't get around to it till likely following the new DF release likely.

There's alot of things I want to relook now that Gensokyo has gone through a whole lot of changes itself (thanks to WaHH, and FS) and likely the things to come will add more into the pot.

For now, I just ask everyone to remain patient. Cause I will return eventually. I just got to get these projects organized first.

I believe it is still on hiatus. And since Totaku said he is preparing a project for the arrival of Zun stateside in september, I'd imagine Suika Fortress will continue to be on hiatus until then.

What is this code you might ask? After fiddling around with the files a bit, Cirno was revamped to not be a giant wrinkled prune of a fairy (wrinkling removed, size changed to be compatible with Sukian clothing) and now has the ability to use armor (metal is the best choice, as she has a tendency to freeze off her dresses otherwise, being as smart as she is) and weapons, so she isn't as likely to be preyed upon by random hunters. Also tested her by making her playable, and with some training, even peasant Crino can impale a skinless lizard demon goddess with judicial use of a cold iron halberd. She's nowhere near invincible however, and will likely go down screaming like a baby kobold if anything touches a part of her body that isn't a wing. Most creatures that can shoot web will also find the strongest to be a rather fine meal, though she can otherwise handle most titans just fine. Also fixed her sprite not displaying properly due to a typo in the image files.

Ice fairies were likewise tested as a playable race, though I have yet to figure out how to make them start with anything beyond the spear and dagger combo (they can equip Sukian clothing, however). They play like Cirno, only they're far worse at dodging attacks and posses less ice powers. Your best bet is to lure earth-bound semi-megabeasts and titans out in the open and fly high in the sky, dropping random objects to slowly but safely pelt them to death. Oddly, blue-haired ice fairies are a rarity; most of them are redheads, with the occasional teal or white hair.



And I've been working on a new semi-megabeast: Shrine Tanks! Rika's original machine, and perhaps one of the most obscure characters in the entire Touhou fandom, tanks are cast iron, heavily armed and armored machines that are capable of launching fireballs, bullet clusters that can hit up to five targets at once, and a machine gun-like attack capable of hitting eight times with lead. Needless to say, bring a shield and a whip bow before attempting to take on this beast, and be wary of explosions!

In addition, Shrine tanks can also be traded for from your local caravan if requested, but usually have a value in excess of 10,000, and are...somewhat unreliable when used for surface defensive purposes, especially if you want to keep your yukkuri industry intact. Used properly however, and they can fend off HFS at a far better rate then most Suika can (or at very least distract clowns into harmlessly pounding against their hulls while your far squishier Suika shoot at them from far away), and in the late game, are a semi-expendable scouting unit capable of surviving for extended periods in extremely hostile environments.

The Shrine Tank has been made heavier, and should now weight roughly eight tonnes, allowing it to better smash things under its threads (well, in theory at least; in practice, it will only resort to crushing if it loses both its main gun and its machine gun, a highly unlikely scenario), while the additional body parts as well as thicker front plate will make it harder then ever to take down, perhaps even making it more dangerous then some megabeasts (though certainly not EES), resulting in much fun.

But mod mods aside, I've been working on a loosely Touhou-related mod on my own; The Sunflower Fairy race, using genuine sunflower fairies! It basically takes the fairy code (mainly, the bullet material) of this mod, and fleshes it out into a full fledged civ. At the moment, they're limited to adventure mode in vanilla DF, but I'm brainstorming ideas on how to make them playable for the next major patch. If you're still reading Totaku, I'd like to know if it would be okay if I used your code, as well as a couple of the fairy sprites as bases for the sheet?

Oh, and I never got to mention this, but congratulations on the banner you made for the con; It turned out rather beautifully, if I say so myself.

Hilariously, tanks have killed more forts by setting the surface on fire then they have successfully fended off inbaba incursions, their flames setting stuff abalze indiscriminately. They're an asset of you can master their use, but improper usage of them is very fun and dwarfy oni-ish. And they're useless against anything made out of metal, which is a surprisingly large amount of megabeasts, including other tanks.

In other news, the Fairy civ side-project is now functional, and I'm starting to get a good feel on how they play. Namely, their main shtick is the fact that they're physically incapable of chopping down trees. The good news is that they can start with exotic beasts, and can hence bring in war elephants and giant desert scorpions if given sufficient points.
