another freeze, fired up adventure mode; got bored and jumped into a pond, drowned, then the game's music stops and it's frozen, only task manager said it was still running, it just wasn't accepting commands.

Excellent work!!! Keep it up, you are doing a great job with the game updates Baughn.

Two questions:
  • Can anyone recommend a PNG graphic set that fully makes use of the transparencies?
  • Is there any way at all to see what the heck is going on in fortress mode combat?

It's insane that we have been unable to see combat for 17 months. No combat report type mods work at all?
And saying "it's coming next version" does not help till it's actually released, thanks.

All non-2d modes segfault for me.
Same here, with any combo of icu/boost_regex, 2D mode works, other modes dont and result with segfault before window is initialized.

Tried that. Don't work.

Oh, that's weird.  What OS are you using?  Any non-US keyboard configuration?

It's a short laptop keyboard (the kind with no numpad and the "home" key cluster along the side.)

I'm on a fairly vanilla Ubuntu 9.10. The script doesn't seem to launch the program at all (not just clicking on the exe).

I'm popping over to Windows now to have a go from the dark side. It'll be marvelous, I'm sure!

Don't know what to tell you except that the 40d# releases were never intended to have new game elements of any kind.

Use a terminal and you'll at least get your error messages.

Works fast and generates worlds in a minute in XP. I'm the proud owner of a crappy Celeron D box so the speed improvements from 40d have been notable and practical, thanks.

How long before I lose the "Escaped Lunatic" label? I hate typing my thoughts into the goddam borg.

[Edit for "d16" when I meant "40d"]

(There's no news item for the 40d17 release either)

Does seem to do worldgen faster than the last, but gameplay is slower.

When you have more than 8 posts, I think.

Seems to work fine for me, and I didn't notice anything specialy weird on adv mode, except for the eventual lag and my character moving in a direction for a while even after I stoped using the key to move that way, but apart from that it works fine. Fortress mode seems fine, and I think I have a slightly FPS boost when comparing it to 40d16.

Almost forgot: I'm getting a weird 2 second lag before combat reports show up, but only when its the first report since the time I entered a site, after that it works smoothly again.

During worldgen, the settlement region string is not displaying properly.  For example, at year 175 it said:

The Town of Thakomashi
"TThe Ambiguous Hiller" (should be "The Ambiguous Hill")

At year 267 it said:

The Mountain Halls of Mengbomrek
"TThe Horn of Meadowsr" (should be "The Horn of Meadows")

The regions display properly in the legends.

Also, during the saving of a new world, the FPS is displaying in excess of 350,000.  FPS at the main menu is 104.  FPS during worldgen was 1.

I did a clean install and only edited the init file to turn off music, intro and blackspace, and to use my chosen tileset with my chosen resolution.

^ I had the same problem. I'm going to stick to 40d until these problems get worked out.

That's the great thing about this forum. We can derail any discussion into any other topic.
It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

9, 11, 16 are quite good (avoid adventure mode though)

Those of you with a 30% speed drop, are you all on linux?

If so, please try the 40d17-head pack in the first post.

ThThe title weirdness is due to a bug toady thinks he already fixed.. in the other development branch. Since it's not a very fatal one, fixing it for this one should not be a high priority, but he might end up doing it anyway. Oh well.
