I suppose I could be a bastard or even a fair mod if nobody else wants to.

Is there going to be another Beginner's Mafia anytime soon?

I think we’ve stopped doing ‘em ‘cause there usually isn’t enough interest to run an actual game.

Not sure if the game being set up just now is necessarily beginner friendly, but mafia is easier to learn by doing than reading.

I think that, based on the OP, there's a chance of it being bastard. That would make it extremely beginner-unfriendly. Of course, what better way to learn than with a trial by fire?

What does "bastard" mean in this context?

Something like this. MaximumSpin is the mod, so he's perhaps the best person to ask, but he may be unwilling to tell all about it.

From what I can tell, he's the one making the roles, so it's according to his whim what you get. It may just be that, may be a lot more.

Most Mafia games assume the mod of the game is being truthful. Bastard games don't.

This list has some notable examples

Mafia is a game of not trusting the other players, but in bastard you can't trust the game, either.

Without an existing understanding of the game, it's hard to learn the playstyle and mindset required for bastard. It's not beginner-friendly. It's not anyone-friendly, really. But done right, it will at least make for a laugh when you look back at it later.

You will truthfully be told your own role, alignment, and win condition(s). You will truthfully be told your mafia partner(s) if applicable.

Also, even though I dispute that they are bastard, any "sufficiently Jester-like" win conditions would still allow the game to continue for everyone else. The implication that it is possible for more than one win condition to win at the same time is also generally true.

I wonder if we have enough interest for a second mafia game.

Maybe something a little less bastard for the peeps who aren't so interested in whatever the heck Spin has planned.

Maybe FBYOR 4(now featuring Money!).

I think this would fit better in the banter thread, but not a lot of people have looked at there, so I'll post it here, too.

I need a couple of people to playtest a mafia project I'm making. Each round is really small - 3 people each - and are very straightforward. Once enough people have playtested, I'll use their behavior to make AI players for 2 of the spots, making this a single player mafia game. So, if this sounds interesting and you want to get assimilated into an AI, then go on and check it out!

FBYOR 4 ran out of steam. I'm sorry to say I'm giving up that game.
It had... faults.

That means there are no mafia games currently running. Is this the end of the subforum?
