Is Make-A-Role is dead? If so, I'd sign up for a simple BYOR.

Where is everyone?  We've had attendance slumps before, but this is the worst I've seen.

Mafiascum, presumably.

I know a lot of our folks left for there, and a bunch of people also hit the one-year mark and never came back.  Oh, and there's Dakarian... and a whole ton of other regulars.  Forsaken1111, Cheeetar, JanusTwoFace, Zai, JoshuaFH, Rysith.  None of them play anymore.

Clearly we need new blood! And more BM will help with that.

Pretty sure I got sucked into mafia from a link to Paranormal in Meph's signature.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

I got interested when I played a few rounds of it IRL and then noticed there was a board for it here. Although the tabletop version is very different, in both gameplay and game structure. It starts in a night phase, and when you can read expressions there is no RVS.

Protip: Smug grins while answering questions more often means they are telling the truth... Sooo many games go to the scum because somebody calls 'Hey look, your smiling, you're mafia!' and everybody jumps on the bangwagon.

I actually have no memory of how I got here. I just remember something vague about hearing 'they play SERIOUS mafia here' and ending up here. I'd posted elsewhere on the Bay 12 forums, so I decided to join in. After 2 months of lurking.

Damnit now it's bugging me.

How many do we have left of the people who were here when the subforum itself came into existence?

The lack of penguin avatars might be a clue...

Beginner's Interest Thread, or rather, the New Player's Guide to the Mafia Subforum, is up.

Take a look. Let me know if there's any information I'm missing or other resources I should include, or other suggestions about what I should say. I'd like to leave the giant glut of information that's in a usual BM opening post out of it, since that's a lot to look over and I don't want to immediately scare away new players with giant walls of helpful information that they have to trudge through.

I'm thinking I might rework that usual opening BM post anyway, since there's a lot I don't like about it, but maybe some other time.

Looks pretty good. You might want to include a basic description of what the game actually is for those people who wander in and want to get the gist of it without reading a tutorial.

I think we should set up a Beginner's Game Interest Thread, so that new players can swing by, see how best to get involved in the mafia subforum, and then post to say that they're interested. That way we have a way to announce when the next Beginner's Game goes up easily and to easily track down and direct new players towards it.

I've been thinking this for a while. If it's fine with everybody else I'll probably make the topic soon.
hmm... I got this PM btw:
Is it still time to sign up?
I knew what Mafia was and all, although I never really played it, I have a sudden urge to replay it. So after looking at the rules and reading all the classes, I decide to play it. I saw the Words Beginner's Mafia so I figured this was the place for n00bs to go and gain some skill and learn the ropes (Pun intended.)
If not, I'll just start my own thread. Not going to be much of a change from the original. But I do have some rules in place I had in mind.
But if it is, I'm going to read all that information you posted, and hope I become an arsonist (Because that sounds dandy.)
... Yup. need to refer that guy there.

It looks like we need more penguin avatars  :P

We all have to do our part to increase the number of penguin avatars.
