Right... I saved a game quite normally. No problems, no strangeness. I try to load it up later, and I get a message which reads "One of the compressed files has been corrupted, reload from a back up if able" or something to that effect.

Any ideas on how to solve this?

Check your hard drive for errors, run some defrags.
