Yeah my bad, I occasionally copied them and then removed them :).

'm a big fan of RantingRodent's work and use it myself, but I'm hesitant to include a tileset in the download. Many experienced DF players are attached to a particular tileset that they've traditionally used (or the basic ascii tileset), and since most tilesets involve changes in the raws it can be hard to convert from a prepackaged set to another. But, I really like the idea of having Mesozoic Dwarves ready to go with RantingRodent's set, which many people do use. Maybe the best solution is to have two different Mesozoic Dwarves downloads: one with raw ascii, and another with your sprites and the RantingRodent-based tileset?
It's for graphics version, and I will include 2 types of tilesets, they will be easy to swap. In any case for graphical version you don't need "letters" for creatures because it's weird when a creature dies and spawns as a "letter" corpse. They are OK with any "remains" tile for corpse, RR or basic one.

Also, here's a WIP on troodon graphics (I based the style on Sphr dwarves because I really like them):
*I went with a bit "comical" style with bigger head and oversized tools but it's easier to identify them this way. I will make all professions (so captured/babysnatched/migrated troodon have proper profession tiles):
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I've considered some kind of dragonkin that are nearing extinction, but don't want to go overboard with the fantasy elements.
I think that dragons are enough :). It's cool to play with "real" dinosaurs, and magical creatures remove this "feeling" a bit.

Love them! A bit more robust and crocodilian than I imagined, but I think you made a good call by making them look more like "people" with recognizable professions, in a style that will match the dwarves.

Hey, i created a race of my own, and inserted it into your mod, they are an evil race, and at ~~~~~ with all the other civs, and they happen to be able to get Tyrannos as animals... yes the ADAMANTINE class animal, for 1 point each. this is probably a glitch, but funny.

as a side note, the same creature/civ i made, has a paralytic venom sting on their tail. that may explain a little bit of how they managed to capture such beasts with only knowing how to use iron at best.

EDIT: another side-note, my modded in civ, are size 6, the tyrannos are size 38.... and they also do not show up in the animals screen, but yet, i could embark with them.

This is Dwarf Fortress! If we can chuck magma at innocent wildlife, we can do ANYTHING!

It was at this point that I realised that dwarves are actually the essence of chaos. What else can make perpetual motion machines, recursive statues with more building materials than the average tower and has such a short attention span that a damn fine chair can off-set the death of their entire family.

Hi, I really like the idea of your mod, and i thought i'd add a few suggestions, if i may:
1) make the dwarves able to only smelt copper and bronze without a magma smelter. with a magma smelter they can forge iron, although this should take an insanely long time to do.
2) Remove siege engineers and siege operators from the game
3) make the only buildable traps stone-fall traps and upright spikes.
4) open up a whole bunch of animals for training and war training
5) Give the Orkks copper weapons only to show their technological inferiority.
Idunno how many of these are possible or if you even like any of them but i just thought i'd throw in my two cents.

Actually, after some ruminating, i'm feeling a bit of a strange mood coming on.
would you mind if used your mod to build parts of my own mod? Which i've just now had the idea for. I'd give you full credit.

Mr.Dwarf: possible all except for 1. You can still do it by yourself (limit yourself).

Sure Mr. Dwarf, use anything you want from the mod.

Most of the more dangerous animals are already [trAPAVOID], but I'm definitely considering your 4th idea. Ideally, I suppose there'd be a potential war animal in every biome.

I think the oddities with the tyrannosaurus are due to the fact that they have neither [PET] nor [PET_EXOTIC], since I didn't originally plan on the dwarves being able to use them (just orkks). Also, they're probably selling so cheaply because they also don't have a [PETVALUE] tag, for the same reason. Easily fixable for your custom civ.

Does this mod work with version 0.28.181.40d?
Also, did you ever end up making a version of this mod with the ASCII graphics?

Hmm... it works with the last version of 40d that was current before DF2010 came out, but I haven't tried it with anything else. Just got a new job, so haven't been playing lately. The download is packaged with some crappy graphics for the new creatures that I did myself, and of course it's playable as normal ASCII also. If anyone ever wants to make some new graphics for it, be my guest.

Looks like this was great work.
Was much (any) incorporated into other mods?
Is anyone working on (or thinking about) updating this to 031.x ?

That was me. Been trying to make a few dinosaurs, but I'm really not that good at modding.
