Oh my god the possibilities
« on: November 24, 2009, 02:48:05 pm »

I've found that I like to find landmarks on the worldmap that can be encompassed in one fortress.  I've done a lake, and now I'm doing it with a mountain.
Not just any mountain though!  It is like the best mountain ever.  It is a single mountain in the middle of nowhere (I.e. not connected to a mountain range), and it has a peak of 28 z-levels from the brook’s level.
What’s more, it’s just a paltry 9x11 embark tiles long  :P

It has an open magma vent.  It has a bottomless pit.  And THEY'RE RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER!

It has a chasm, and a brook that carves a canyon through the whole thing.  AND THEY'RE RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER!

What's more, as soon as I embarked, I got the message, "You have located Arackgosmer, Shafttumbes, a cave!"
THERE ARE KOBOLDS!

Look at how cute they are.  I think I’ll catch some and tame them as pets.

I think that there are at least four types of sand.  I saw at least two (red and yellow) next to the gigantic field of loam that will become the largest food-producing center on the planet!

All this, and I’m pretty sure there is a funhouse just north of the kobold cave/dwarf-cave-that-was-once-a-kobold-cave.

I could create crazy constructions, I could make a twisted story about cross-species interactions between the friendly thieves, and the dwarves that took over their home.  I COULD CARVE TUNNELS CONNECTING THE MAGMA VENT, THE BOTTOMLESS PIT, THE CHASM, AND THE RIVER FOR NO REASON!

Sorry for yelling.  I’m just so aglee with excitement!

Remember to add [PET] to the kobold raw entry if you want to be able to tame them properly... unfortunately, I'm not sure if that'll work, as they're civvers. Even if it doesn't, you might find that you'll be able to tame any babies they have.

Heh.  My miner dorf just strolled right into the cave, and started carving stockpile caverns in the leader kobold's room.  I'm assuming that their lack of reaction must be out of shock or fear.  What would you do if seven small, beared men marched into your home and started to dig out a city in your basement?

Hold that thought

There might be an underground water source!

Also, there isn't a wagon.  Just a bunch of barrels on a slope.  Why is this?  (There also was a mysterious collapse of a cave segment at embark, far away from the wagon site).

Is there any way we can get the seed?

9x11?  Yikes.  I work on 2x2s most of the time, to keep my FPS above 50.  I hope you do something rad with that site.

Awww, Mad Engie, treat those little fuckers right, place them in a nice cave, and drop some coins for them.
Oh, and magma and sand, you'll be swimming in metallic goods that night!

So, the Kobolds come up as "Friendly".  Is that just because you embarked there, or do they default to Friendly anyway, and then just take your stuff because they're kleptomaniacs?  If When they die, will they be carted off to dwarf sarcophogi?

It's a glitch, if you embark onto a site that has a civ, they'll become friendly.

Here is a personal example of this glitch:
I wanted to have a challenge, so I embarked next to the largest possible gob tower I could find, and bam, ALL FRIENDLY, abandoned, and tried again, with all other hostile civs, friendly, friend, no stabby, ally, chum, COMPLETE BULLSHIT D: .

Oh, and the coffin thing, depends if you allow the dwarves to collect, and bury any body.
