They turn hostile when you get sieged, I believe.

Actually, I'm not even sure about that.

My most recent fort was lost to an orc invasion, and I reclaimed it. There were three orcs decked out in dwarf leather jewelry hanging out in the ruins, at peace with the second wave of dwarves who came to repopulate my fort, but through the goblin ambushes and treant sieges they stayed loyal, and even helped out in the fighting.

Perhaps friendly creatures only turn hostile if enemies of the same race show up; I didn't get the chance to test this with my orcs because they were eventually wiped out by two squads of elf bowmen. If so, however, your kobolds will probably be content to live as your devoted, adoring pets for the rest of their (short) days.

Reclaimed invaders WILL turn hostile when that race sieges again, but I'd guess from your post that other sieges don't count. I wonder about ambusges.

what minerals do you have?

more importantly, what computer do you have. To handle a 9x11, your machine must be a beast.

Yes, that's what I assume would be the case; however, since kobolds do not siege, and they only ambush if you're careless with valuables, there should be no danger of the native kobolds turning on him.

Mine can handle the maximum embark size with few problems, at least straight off it can. Not sure about what happens when I have that plus 200 dwarves plus a big-ass siege plus kittens, but it'd still probably be around 10-20 fps.

I want the seed for this! It sounds AWESOME.

Is there flux on the map? I won't play any fortress unless I can get delicious steel.
