Cadem settles in a hovel.

Something comes to that city (megabeast, semimegabeast), destroys the hovel, Cadem moves out.

Cadem settles then in a different hovel.

Repeat that x21, and voila. Mystery solved.

Maybe he had a vacation home, and just moved between that and his orriginal home?

... in the same city?

Wel, I cant imagine the hovel being destroyed 21 times without the resident getting killed... but who knows, its DF after all.

Dunno, stranger things have happened, I read a legend where a particular Giant killed about 15 people, then some guy came in and fought him, the giant ripped off his right arm, left hand, ripped open his torso, and the guy still won the battle and limped home lacking limbs and organs.

(There is a story behind this. . .)

This is an Alder Omelette. All craftsdwarfship is of highest quality. It is encircled with bands of cheese. It menaces with spikes of bacon, ham, and peppers. On the object is an image of dwarves in egg white. The dwarves are eating.

what probably happened was the dude was sitting at home, enjoying some nice prickle berry wine, when some random elf civ or something attacked.
now, Cadem being a smart guy by DF standards, decides to GTFO. he does not, however, leave the city, and for one reason or another needs a home. so when the invaders burn down his hovel, he gets assigned a new one. when they burn down that one, he gets assigned a new one. this continues, and you end up with a funny story to tell us.

He ends up in the street, every other house being cinders.

   Damn elves.
