What might be worrying is how complex setting them up could be. You can see an example in the dwarf raws and the eye color raws.

That's only complicated-looking because he gave dwarves like 20 eye colors.  A tiger should be straightforward.

Much as I love prehistoric animals (and trust me, it's almost unhealthy), can we at least divide them into their proper time periods? Anything which mixes together dinosaurs and synapsids and sabretooth tigers makes the 10 year old inside me scream endlessly about accuracy.

I can, however attest to Giant Ground Sloths being pretty sweet.

It should only be a matter of copy&paste from the generic tiger already in the game, really. It was meant somewhat more broadly, though you're right, eye colors is most likely the most complex example overall.

I for one also want a variety of mundane creatures- pigs and tame goats, chickens, sheep... then maybe some castes for dogs and cats, then get into some of the more exotic but real creatures like zebras and gazelles, some large lizards.

You guys need to put in the platypus.
It's just such a scary animal when it comes down to its abilities, but its also kinda cute in an odd way.
just a basic update of a raccoon into one, but ideally it should have the poison injected by attacking with its hind foot spurs.

Mountain Goat
Elk

DF already has these.  I think it's a safe bet they'll be included in the next version.

Deer
Mule Deer
Mountain deer
White-tailed Deer

It would be appropriate to replace the generic deer if we're adding individual species, wouldn't it?  Also, I could find little evidence for the existence of a "Mountain Deer."  Wikipedia says it's been "declared an invalid construct," whatever that means.

Stag Moose

This appears to be extinct.  Are we including extinct species?  It might be cool to make a separate Pleistocene Pack of Ice Age creatures like the mammoth, sabertooth and cave bear.

Here's some reptiles.  I tried to select creatures that were distinct from each other in interesting ways (size, body composition, habitat, diet, etc).  I didn't do lizards and snakes yet because there are a ton of those and it's hard to pick out the ones worth including.

Crocodilians
Gharial
Caiman
Black caiman (much bigger)

Turtles
Gopher tortoise
Giant tortoise (stand-in for Galapagos tortoise and other large tortoises)
Sea turtle
Leatherback turtle
Snapping turtle
Musk turtle
Snakeneck turtle
Box turtle
Painted turtle
Softshell turtle

I'm working on a list of amphibians at the moment. Footkerchief will be glad to note that there is at least one member of each family (and there are a LOT of families). If anyone has any particular favourites, please speak up!

Haha, I already left out a couple exceptionally boring turtle families, or mashed them together.  Snakes and lizards may get the same treatment.

Amphibians are almost as boring as reptiles.  The hellbender has a cool name at least.

Monotremes
Platypus
Echidna

Marsupials
Opossum
Quoll (could maybe be used as stand-in for the inconveniently named Tasmanian devil)
Numbat
Bilby
Bandicoot
Koala
Wombat
Sugar glider
Ringtail possum
Kangaroo

Well, there are a fair few good amphibians http://www.bogleech.com/bio-amphibia.html

Plus you can give them "[TILE:249][ALTTILE:'.']" and it makes a really adorable ASCII animation

It would be great to have various tortoise species too, so as to be able to find more shells!

Used to live in an area that had these all around, these things are scary little bastards.

I'm wondering if there will be a sister project to introduce more plants?

That said I might try and contribute once I figure out how the new raw format works.

I was going to do something like this with dinosaurs in the next version. With each period having its own raw files (So the dino-lovers dont get annoyed at Spinosaurs hunting brachiosaurus)

Heres the list of the ones I was going to do first (following up with more if it gets any interest):

And finish up doing a whole lot more. The numbers on the right is there size.

Halmie -- in case you didn't know, the size system is changing quite a bit in the next version.  An adult dwarf is size 60000.
