I currently have an IDE hardrive though I have bought a Non-Ide hardrive (what ever they are called). Will this be compatible with my motherboard?

Rather than having them directly force you to mine adamantine, I would suggest that they give you strange moods that require adamantine. "Dig out the adamantine or Urist here goes insane and dies" is suitably vicious.

(It occurs to me that you can probably get "Lovecraft" as the random name of your fortress. That's when you know you're screwed.)

Its Harddrive not Hardrive  :P

It depends on the motherboard although if your main harddrive is IDE then the motherboard probably doesn't support SATA(The other type), most computers made since 2005 support SATA

You can apparently buy adapters, or buy a SATA extension card.

Consult your motherboard's physical manual or online and see if it has sata ports. If not you need to see if you can buy an ide/sata converter.

I'm pretty certain it does have SATA ports but it does have one big Ribbon Cable in there for certain. I'll open her up in the morn and report back.

The ribbons are used for alot of CD/DVD drives, So it could be used for that aswell as your harddrives. Alot of harddrives were IDE as well, even if you had sata ports.

Hm.. Could be that. I remember taking it out the other day. It did not have a Ribbon if I remember correctly. Anyway, the reason I( ask you this because I am upgrading from Xp to 7 and I plan to install after the upgrade. I hear however that 7 makes a clean install. I have lost the CD required for a certain program that came with the wireless mouse I have. Is there a way to get the files straight from the computer onto a memory stick or another external memory device?

What you have is a PATA drive, not an IDE drive. You can do a little research to determine the compatibility of your motherboard by researching the Wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallel_ATA

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA

Both feature pictures of the relevant ports required.

No, I have a SATA hard drive and my mobo is SATA. The problem is, I plug my second hard drive in properly and I boot up my computer. It says Reboot and select proper boot drive. Or something of the sort. What do I do?

no, both rely on a SATA plug. They both have sata ports on them

You then probably need to go into the BIOS setup and set the primary boot drive to the one with the operating system on it.

I'm sorry if that doesn't make sense, it's really the only way to say it. As the computer is turning on, hit the button indicated, usually delete or F9, to enter into the BIOS Setup. Every motherboard is a little different, so I can't give you exact instructions from that point on to change the boot order. Check your manual.

Yeah, I was fiddling around with the BIOS and only one Hardrive would show up at a time, the other hardrive would show up and cause the Message. I'm gonna get a new SATA lead because the old was screwed. The two should then work.
