Way to be creepy, internet.  <3

All I can say about dating pools in math/engineering circles, though:  "The odds are good, but the goods are odd."

Unluckily for everyone who knows me, after that year or so I turn into a thing that wants hugs all the time =/

And, well... since I'm a member of that technical circle, I have to say it seems like a situation where similars attract.

And "affection: you gives me nao" is unusual how, exactly?  Actually, more than anything it's a thing that college does to you.  People seem to level out on this stuff once they're out of school, no matter when that is (HS, bachelor, PhD...)

Not quite that bad.  I suspect I am using an unexpected definition of "all the time."

Is it "must be forcibly removed with a crowbar"? I have a friend like that. No complaints here!

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Nah.  I just, you know, like to have my head patted and stuff.

EDIT: Pats on the head, curry, and the occasional book are basically enough to purchase my loyal friendship for life =/

Well, I'm moving to Berkeley, clearly. I have or possess the capability to create these things in abundance, and clearly that's sufficient justification. >______>

Unless you don't like your curry sweet, in which case I'm afraid we'll clearly destroy each other in some sort of cooking battle and HOW THE HELL DID THAT GET POSTED.

In case nobody saw, my computer somehow decided I'd clicked post when I'd done nothing of the kind while I was editing.

Wow, that is so on track that it actually puts me to shame.

Also, about 100% of my female friends absolutely hate being patted on the head.

I try to pass it off as random ostrich testing- ostriches have very thin skulls, and a good tap on the crown can kill them.

I remember seeing this commercial from the 1950's, where some housewife is all excited about how clean her laundry is with their new detergent.  When the husband comes home, he affectionately pats her on the head.  It reminded me way to much of how one would pet an animal.  And then I thought, y'know I wonder why people don't like being petted.  I guess some do.
