Questions about Dig Deeper
« on: January 03, 2010, 05:07:26 am »

I've just downloaded Dig Deeper, how scared should I be? =S

A few questions: How much meat/fat/bones do fully grown chickens and pigs give out?

Do orcs have any weaknesses?
Do they attack earlier than goblins?
What kind of stuff do they have?

Is there anything I should know about minerals?

answers would be awesome!

Bwahahahaha! Poor fool.

I've been playing since 2D. When I first installed Dig Deeper, I lost more forts over the course of one week than I had in the couples years prior without it.

That having been said, the mod is a lot of fun. Once you learn to survive, you'll probably never go back to vanilla.

Do orcs have any weaknesses?

Magma.

Usually. It varies. Most often I get orcs after about two seasons, but I've seen them take as long as two years before they show up.

Leather, iron and steel armor. Weapons of variable quality up to exceptional.

Nothing especially important comes to mind. But be aware that Dig Deeper introduces some new food types that the trade depot search screen has difficulty searching for. If you want to trade in food, be sure to produce standard food too, as if you exclusively make modded food, sometimes you'll have hundreds of food that you can't get to the trade depot.

I just started trying out Dig Deeper too  ;D

My first game the orcs came in mid winter of the first year, six wrestlers and six using maces.  It was briefly Fun - I'd never seen my dogs flee anything before   :o

My second game put great thought into fortress defense, and a year and a half in it remains untested by anything but kobolds.

Be forewarned that generally the longer they take to show up, the bigger their first assault is. I lost a couple forts to that. Got used to expecting to defend against 10-12 orcs...then one game they waited a while to show up and when they did there were a screen and a half worth of them led by a macelord or two.

Yes.

Orcs use wardogs as toothpicks. Live wardogs.

...

Sigged.

Also, adventure mode with Dig Deeper is pretty fun as well. Try dueling one of the new Megas (like the GCS Queen) with a large party of adventurers and you'll find out what I'm talking about.

Or, wiping out Orc forts. It's harder than it sounds. And it sounds pretty hard.

Adventure mode runs too slow on my computer, unfortunately.

I'm going to use cats to fight my orcs, just because I love the mental image.

I turned off autocenter on mine, and it sped up tremendously. ;D

You'll want to ensure that the orcs have no points of egress into your fortress, though. If they get in, they'll be sure to wreck some faces.
