English-Speaking Dwarves
« on: January 03, 2010, 06:34:17 pm »

I don't know if this has been done before, but I changed the language files so that all the words are in English. If nothing else, it makes dwarf names easier to remember.

For multi-word...words, I put an underscore. There aren't that many, so you can go through and delete them without too terribly much trouble if that bothers you. Fixed.

The file is too long for one post, so I'll split it:

Here's the modified /raw/objects/language_DWARF.txt (part I):

Code: [Select]
[T_WORD:ARCH:arch]
[T_WORD:ARCH NOUN:arch noun]

[T_WORD:FELL CRUEL:fell cruel]
[T_WORD:FELL HIDE:fell hide]

[T_WORD:MATCH CONTEST:match contest]
[T_WORD:MATCH EQUAL:match equal]

The point of the "multi-word" words is that they're just where the English language is inefficient and we've reused words - they'd probably be better off being changed. After all, if you have a place called "arch" you probably know which grammatical permutation the game means.

On an interesting side note, because of the way some words have multiple tenses for one root word, you get funny things like Seducedecide, "The Seduction of Decisions".
I just think it's hilarious myself.

I've been meaning to do this myself for a language_ENGLISH, but it always seemed like too much work.  Thanks!  I think I'll give this to my modded in race.
