That's interesting, I've never heard of 750 ton star swarm before.

Pics or it didn't happen.  :P

But seriously though, Soldiers are and have always been 800t + 10k km/s on the dot. Either it's something else, or you've managed to change it in the database intentionally or otherwise, or it's a bug bug. If you go into SM mode you should be able to check their ship designs directly.

So, three layers?  Hmmmm.
Keep in mind, seven columns. That's enough that there's a decent chance of any given soldier eating multiple WH-9 missiles on the armor only, since the full three-deep penetration is only one column wide. It's why fast ships with long range lasers are more efficient, especially when dealing with scores of the little buggers.

750t here as well. Also two different classes, though the stats seem to be the same.

I believe 750t is the Worker class vessel.  Forget the differences between it and the Soldier.

The workers are the unarmed ones that turn wrecks and asteroids into more Swarm ships.

Yep.

Wait. Shit. ACTUALLY. I think I do remember reading a post over on the Aurora forums about 750t variants, I'm just a goof.

The only reference I could find was an AAR from last December, though. I think it might possibly be because at some point in the mid-past the size limit for FACs might have been reduced to 750t max. Don't remember, though, and my save is old enough that the Swarm are all using the 800t ones.

Yeah, okay. I haven't updated in a while, looks like it was just people wanking on their fluff class listings.

Oh, I know what's going on, Steve halved the size of fire controls in 6.40 which was released in April, so I guess swarms saved 50 tons and now go slightly faster?

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

Oh yeah, that makes perfect sense now.

I am getting really annoyed at my PD sometimes switching to "self only" for a salvo or two for no reason. Thinking of SpaceMaster repairing the damage now.

Edit: Lost a 16.000t destroyer to that bug now.  >:(

I've noticed that sometimes ships set on final defensive fire don't fire on missiles, is that what you mean? (Sometimes none will, sometimes a few will, sometimes they all will). I wondered if I was missing something.

It didn't really bother me that much; otherwise in Aurora it's kind of possible to set up a perfect point defense setup and be basically immune to enemy missiles. I kind of just rationalized it as sometimes the point defense ships being unable to get a shot off in time and rode with it.

Yes, they are set to final defense and sometimes they won't fire. If the target is an escort, that escort usually fires, so I figured they switch to final defense (self only). Next salvo they act as if nothing has happened.

Up until now I didn't mind either (well, at least not much), but if they do not shoot when more than 200 AMMs try to hit at once it is a bit too much damage. Even if they do shoot some 50-80 missiles hit, and there are a lot of salvos in the "air", so my ships will be in pretty bad shape once they close to beam distance.
That destroyer died to normal anti-ship missiles though when a magazine blew up.

And to think that I only went on this tour to get rid of an annoying message every time I use the galactic map. :D
(Got system info from enemies, and now there is always error messages about warp points not being found, so I figured I'd use those JP to give me the neccessary info.)
