There can be dozens of surface-based geological surveys that don't find anything new. But when they find something it can be BIG.

Orbit survey has found few more ~1M deposits of 0.1 accessibility at Nastrand IV before, too.
And it has 434 colony cost with my current logistics tech. Time to start establish a new colony.

That duranium deposit is the most amazing such thing I have seen in years.

Immediately after ramping up infrastructure production my colony hit 0 cost well ahead of schedule. Time to find a new planet to colonise I guess.

And I thought 24.5 million .3 access titanium was the biggest thing ever... Get at least 100 mines on that place, now.

My propulsion scientist just emerged from his labs to tell us all about his new discovery, only to be informed that three years ago aliens had made contact and nobody told him, and be immediately sent back in the labs for the next five years to discover the next tier of drive.

I found this thing...

It was lurking near a star with no planets (although the binary sibling has 3 but is several billion km out). Did I mention its hostile? Because it is very hostile. And armed with meson cannons... Thats not good is it?

That's one weird ship. Mesons? Is that precursor, or is it those thingies that beat them up? Either way, mesons should take care of it, or lots of railguns, or maybe even a massive swarm of size 1ers.

Cannot be the guys that beat them up as they are disabled.
I'm hoping its a precursor ship and not the other possibility. It has 29 meson cannons, ROF 2 RM 6. And has a R1 sensor with 0.3m range.

Actually, given the low range of that sensor, I'd approach with plasma. Lob away till the shields are dead then smack dat armorless booty and steal some tech.

Communications established with alien race. They identify themselves as Star Swarm.

Also I do have advanced particle beams. So I can sit back and hit fairly (reliably) hard if I wanted. Just need to keep the range advantage which will not be easy.

*grabs more popcorn

I didn't know you could establish communications with them though, you must have had some really lucky rolls there.
