that's probably a local install issue with a different SQLite version resolving in the library path triggering a one time database conversion, can't really figure it out  but if start looking there printing out library versions and whatnot
Quote from: Steve Walmsley
More weirdness.

If I close the IDE and run the exe that sits within the release folder of the build, it runs fine.

If, rather than installing, I simply move those same files from the release folder into a new location on the C drive, it is back to 5 minutes.

Yeah, that sounds quite like some kind of library path issue - Might wanna bring it up.

EDIT: Or rather, whatever silly thing Windows did with its Program Files folder. Hopefully it won't be long now.

Quote
Adding your own naming themes is very simple in C# Aurora.

1) Create a text file with one name per line.
2) Click the button shown below
3) Enter the theme name in an input field that pops up
4) Select the file using a standard windows file dialog box.

The name theme is added to the database for the current game and all future games.

I am pretty excited to make a space-dwarves name theme file and live out the timeline where dwarves acquire trans-newtonian technology. "Captain Urist's Expeditionary Forces."

That inspired me to make a dwarven name list for anyone to use, if you haven't made one already. The first names are easy enough to get, but I had to write a short Python script to generate ~500 random last names.

As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

Heh - it appears you just told someone with 300+ posts on the Aurora forum where to post things.

Otherwise... it's looking good for a weekend release - it seems like the problems that Steve was having with obfuscating his code appear to have been overcome, and *fingers crossed* diplomacy seems to be going well.

Diplomacy? You mean there's alternatives to purging the galaxy of xenos scum?

Of course! There's making nice with one flavor of xenos scum while you wipe out a second flavor. War on one front at a time is preferable, after all.

Man, I know it's Steve's game and everything, and I respect him for all the time and effort he's put into it, but he's blue-balling us (or at least me) so hard right now.

reading from the spec diplomacy is just an excuse to give reasons to wars, with claims and whatnots, and goes to total war at the first point of damage

peace was never an option

...and this is different from all his other releases how?  Love the guy and the game, but that's his go-to move.  ;D

It immensely reduces the game slowdown that was the main killer of games, and fleshes out many, many badly needed mechanics while providing a stronger base for the future development and implenting entirely new and fun things.

also its a project thats been going for ages, and its always exiciting when one oif those comes to fruition
