Thanks for your help. I've got infrastructure and a spaceport on site. It doesn't seem like the civilian company is even making any ships right now though? Hrm.

Do you need to design commerical vessels yourself?

No, they design them on their own.  I recall that you might have to send the first batch of infrastructure and colonists yourself before the civilians take over.  Or you could dive into the contracts interface.  I haven't gotten my game up yet, so I'm going off what I can remember.

Civilian shipping companies won't build their first ships until you have a colony with more than 0 pop.

You need to move the first colonists yourself.  The lines will design their own ships based on your tech levels.

I'd certainly be interested!

Also I finally figured it out, lol. I just had to wait. It took about 2.5 years for the civilians to get things into gear, but once I met all the requires they working as they should!

What sort of LP are you going to do? Text? I would really like a tutorial series with all the xtra dead air trimmed out but I understand all that video editing is a PITA. Written guides are nice too. If there's a wiki it should really get a tutorial section of some sort.

Don't know if this is all games that run with the default setup, or I'm just "special", but I found 4 jump points out of Sol - three led to pretty blah systems. I was going to check out the forth, when I started getting buzzed by NPR contacts around Earth - almost certainly coming from the 4th JP.

I'm not sure how to open communications with NPRs in the new version, so I decided to explain to them in the most universal language to leave me alone - by opening fire at close range - causing one ship to surrender and killing a second.

Looking at the captured ship, humanity is not the tech leader here, so I'm going to have to start rushing missile tech - my ships aren't fast enough to catch them if we're not allowed to just nonchalantly stroll over to them before opening fire.

Haven't ran into an NPR yet, but I do know (I think?) you need a diplomatic vessel (any vessel with a diplomacy module) to open a dialogue.

Spent all day messing around designing ground forces to learn that none of my ships will transit JPs.  So yeah, waiting for the fixes.



Guess I only need one system to mess around with GF though.

Engines only need fuel, power plants are for things like lasers.

You do need to research the power plant before the next propulsion tech unlocks though

Your ships need a JP drive or a stabilized JP to be able to transit. I can confirm that transits work, as I've done so in my game.
One thing to make sure is that you have both the starting "Max Jump Squadron Size" and "Max Squadron Jump Radius" techs researched, otherwise you'll be unable to make a Jump Engine.
