The Queen radiation effect actually is fairly low, but cumulative, so there would be at least a decade or so before large amounts of population would be dead.

The planet is already radioactive though!

Not to worry, I'll make sure to add surprises to keep things interesting (I deleted 3 queens and a matriarch, so I can add them back later and maintain Karmic balance, right?). At this point it would be kind of like knocking over someone with a cast on their leg, though.

By which you mean hilarious, correct?

And if you really want to maintain karmic balance, you'll add in a few dozen Invader ships at about the time you hit internal confinement drive level tech.  :P

The financial centers are surprisingly expensive and slow to build and account for very little wealth individually.

Before discounting Financial Centers, remember that they are the only building/industry that don't require Deutronium to build.  So when the deutronium collapse sets in, they're perfect to build.  Plus, most other industries will be unable to function due to the deutronium shortage, so workers will be in surplus.

It all depends on the game and the specific circumstances.

"Deutronium"? Has a new mineral been added recently or do you mean "duranium"? :P

I've never been able to employ 100% of my population without severe wealth problems anyways, so making financial centers is usually beneficial (say, the difference between employing 80% of the pop building things, or employing 90% building and 10% in financial centers). If you have a lot of trade ships or civilian mines where you aren't buying the minerals you then I suppose you'd be better off without them, but that's not usually my situation.

That's why I've switched over almost entirely to conventional starts; you get a massive (in game terms) stretch of time where you are doing almost nothing beyond building population, generating wealth, and building up your industrial base. That means that you're getting heavy profits for several decades, as you're not using anything other than construction factories, research labs, and a few shipyards. By the time you can switch over to full production, you should have 500,000+ wealth, which is more than enough to last you until you get substantial wealthworlds going, especially if you take pains to try and keep the budget balanced or at a very low loss.

If you build financial centers at 5-10% rate then you'll have no problem. I mostly put most of my factory output on mass drivers and labs. When the mass drivers are done, I switch it to auto-mines or regular mines if I have good minerals on a colony world.

I just realized that I have excellent luck and foresight. 29 years in, researching around the Tri-Cobalt Warhead level tech (125000 RP area), and I have a grand total of two civilian ships. I'm going to pump 20k or so wealth into the civilian lines once I get my designs with the upcoming engine tech finalized, and won't have to worry about scrapping old civ ships for probably something on the order of 50 years.   :D

Nope. Next time pay attention to the screen requirements. Or, get ResizeEnable/get a larger screen.

Unknown to most but the insane and the mystics, Tarran is actually Earth itself, as Earth is sentient like that planet in Avatar. Originally Earth used names such as Terra on the internet, but to protect it's identity it changed letters, now becoming the Tarran you know today.

Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

How to run Aurora in a playable state on small monitors:
1. Game Parameters > Reduced Height Windows
2. Taskbar > Pin to right of desktop
3. Download and run ResizeEnable

I'm beginning to think I should add that to my sig.
