The way to install it is simple:

1: http://aurora2.pentarch.org/index.php/topic,1830.0.html
Read and follow all the instructions. When being asked to overwrite files, READ CAREFULLY AND SAY YES BECAUSE IT SAYS TO KEEP YOUR CURRENT FILE, NOT TO OVERWRITE YOUR CURRENT FILE. Also read the NBs.
2: http://aurora2.pentarch.org/index.php/topic,3330.0.html
Unzip to the same folder. As with the note below, it already includes the 5.42 patch.
3: Run the game. Be amazed at it's fantastic graphics. [/sarcasm] But, more seriously, beneath the spreadsheets there's a LOT of complexity in Aurora.

Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

I play games not for combat but for the storyline I create, the experiences I have, and the ability to create something new. I am obsessed with crafting and micro-management!

I just started playing Aurora yesterday, but was overwhelmed by the interface.  I tried to give it a shot last year the the resolution issue pushed me away.

I have barely scratched the surface of this game.  Reading the AARs are what really made me want to play.  It's like a single-players roleplaying space opera 4x wet dream.

I can see why this is popular with the Bay12ers.  Party on dudes.

We've got two narrative LPs going on this forum. Someone come give orders for the People's Republic of China so I can run a turn :P

Hey guys, is there an easy way to get a bunch of survey ships to travel together in a group, then split up to survey individual planets upon arrival?

Currently I have each ship in it's own taskgroup, which is a ton of clutter and micromanagement.

Yah, it sounds like minecraft with content, you have obviously missed the point, people dont like content, they like different coloured blocks.
Seems to work fine with my copy. As soon as I loaded the human caravan came by and the world burst into fire.

Hmm I installed but it doesn't seem to be working, I'm getting a few in-game errors. Perhaps I'm just dense, also.

@ Ehndras: Are you running Vista/Windows 7? Some folks in the thread have had a hard time getting to work if you install to Program Files on those operating systems. Try installing to a folder on your desktop or something.

Also, it would help us a LOT if you listed the error numbers, names, and descriptions. That way we can actually search their or our forums and such for the answer.

So about 7 enemy ships have been firing missiles constantly for the past 30 minutes in-game while my beam ships close the distance.

These guys just never run out of ammo, huh?

You need to shield those antimatter drives!
They are more dangerous than the missiles!  :o

Who knew a random engineering space would be the straw that broke the camel's back?

The attack started with 5 ships, 1 simply fell apart after taking too much fire, and 2 had catastrophic chain reactions, mostly involving the engines. One is limping along at 12,000 km/s towards the ~7,000 km/s enemy ships, the other is speeding along at 18,235 km/s and drawing tons of fire, systems slowly failing.

Sounds like the next version needs more armor, shields and anti-missile weapons. x_X

Internal armor on your engines and power plants is usually a good thing.
