seems steve continues to up the pace of C+ aurora, so we must be getting close (six months is close for this game) to a launch of what is an updated aurora or aurora 2.0 in spirit anyway

Yeah he's keeping up a very good pace with it, and from what I've read it all seems to be going quite smoothly. From the systems he has in place I can't imagine anything new is going to get stuck/just not work - especially as he's using far more suitable technology for it.

I'm also very excited by how much he's improved stuff (things like planetary invasion) and it sounds like he's keen to build all sorts of things into it after the v1 release.

Absolutely can't wait.

Let's hope Aurora 2 runs  well on Wine....

On that thought, has anyone got Aurora running perfectly on wine?  The last I heard there were minor issues displaying text.  I might attempt a reinstall.

This design is classed as a Military Vessel for maintenance purposes
The fuel range is bad, but that doesn't matter given I can just place tankers in strategic locations before battle. Not sure if I should swap the 40 mini-gauss for the bigger ones but having 90 shots per interval sounds fun. I'm wondering if anyone notices any major flaws, the ship's role is boarding active capitals, precursor spammer platforms and fast moving scoutships.
It is somehow faster than my fighters.

A bit pricey! Worth noting that that each fire control can only target one salvo every 5 seconds.

Yeah, it is missing fire controls if you want to use the gauss for point defence.

A laser could be better than the microwave, you'll want a hole in the armor for your troops to get in, iirc. And all those gauss are just gonna sandblast it. I'd add a spinal laser, maybe make it take longer to reload, because you really just want to fire it once just before you release the troops.

It is also bigger than most of my combat ships when I have Magneto Plasma drives. :D

I could give it one of these Big Guys If I get the lab guys on it:
Code: [Select]
45cm C0.25 Far Ultraviolet Laser
Damage Output 53     Rate of Fire: 1060 seconds     Range Modifier: 5
Max Range 2 650 000 km     Laser Size: 7 HS    Laser HTK: 3
Power Requirement: 53    Power Recharge per 5 Secs: 0.25
Cost: 91    Crew: 21
Spinal Weapon Only
Materials Required: 18.2x Duranium  18.2x Boronide  54.6x Corundium

Or the older 31cm full sized spinal C3 laser.

I don't think the AI uses armor so tough on anything, you might blow up more than you want to.

A 25cm laser then perhaps? Goes through 6 layers as opposed to 8 on a 30/31cm laser or 12? of that monster. Boarding troops should focus on the weak spot if the armour isn't fully breached. Less likely to inflict nasty amounts of shock damage too.

In short this one (also has fewer littleguns and more fire controls):
Code: [Select]
Bruiser class Assault Transport    32 650 tons     1199 Crew     12046.6 BP      TCS 653  TH 14400  EM 6000

Microwaves are awesome because they fry sensors and firecontrols while leaving the rest of thenship intact. I also don’t think the AI uses the hardening techs, so they’re great for shutting down return fire.

I agree that microwave is probably best for the capture angle.  Damage done is just a waste on a potential prize vessel.

Also putting holes in armor does nothing for boarding.  Boarding chances are 100% your speed vs the targets.

Well actually it does make the boarding faster for the pods that do hit. Wiki says that if there’s no existing breaches then the boarders have to attack the ship armour until it fails and they can get inside. Not that that has much of an effect in most space battles, I imagine.

Hmm, never noticed that part of boarding.  Though putting a hole still isn't necessary.

I actually went through the forums to double check that Steve put that in.  The wiki for Aurora is not super reliable.  Though the same can be said about its players as well.  So many drops in the ocean added or changed.

I remember them needing to cut through the armor, that is why I proposed the laser. Just a single shot for getting through.
