Laptop, Water
« on: January 12, 2010, 11:17:51 am »

My mom spilled water on her laptop(keyboard).

The next day, she wakes me up and tells me it's not working.

She already plugged it in with the power cord only to find out it doesn't work.
(boots up, little light pops up, and nothing)

Is there anything I can do?

You could wait for the water to evaporate, and hope it starts working then.

If it's broken, you could take it back and pray they don't notice it's water damage and replace it (I did this with my iPod, they totally didn't catch on)

water can damage sensitive electronics. You can take the cover off and blow the water out to let it dry faster. Worst thing to do right now is to try and turn it on. unplug it, take out the battery. Keep it in a warm dry place for a few days and hope it comes back to life.

If you get no farther than a beep, black screen and green light, try resetting your cmos, usually there is a pin hole that you have to press into for 30 seconds to reset it.

With my old laptop, after my (SECOND!) pepsi accident, I first drained as much as I could, then applied mild warm dry air (with an air heater) to help it dry. I had turned it on first, and gave trouble, but afterwards recovered to pre-second accident status. So yeah, I advise doing this. I did not do it the first time and lost the functionality of two keys. (Mind you, MILD warm dry air. Dont set the damn thing on fire. ANd apply it for long periods of time)

Her laptop, not mine.

I'm kinda mad she didn't wake me up soon after she spilled the water.

Good thing most of her pictures are backed up to a heavy-weight flash drive(16gb).
