Let's Play PBEM EFS (Emperor of the Fading Suns) - Turn 47
« on: January 16, 2010, 09:49:53 am »

This is a topic for the 4X game Emperor of the Fading Suns.

You can obtain the game here: http://s235607088.onlinehome.us/whote/stuff/eofs.zip

You can find various notes and information on the game, as well as the Nova 2.3 patch that we use on this site: http://website.lineone.net/~rwein/nova/home.htm

Keep in mind we play by "house rules" found at: http://website.lineone.net/~rwein/nova/houserules.htm

About EFS:

EFS is a 4X strategy game, with two major phases, land and space.  The ultimate goal is to become emperor (or eliminate all of your enemy's nobles, which is by far the harder task).  There are five playable houses in all, and the game includes politics/diplomacy, research, city building, resource micromanagement, space travel, land/sea battle, and to a lesser extent, assassination.  The game includes an in game tutorial on most of the mechanics that is useful for new players.

House Li Halan: Kebooo (Lord Gabrielle)
House Hazat: Margrave (Lady Zdanya)
House Decados: Il Palazzo (Lord Ibn Palazzo)
House Hawkwood: Zorgn (Lord Kejardon)
House al-Malik: Empty

It's free, the link to the full game (without the music) is in the first post.  Both the publisher (Segasoft) and developer (Holistic Design) are essentially dead companies now, and the game is abandonware.

Head, I'd suggest trying out some single player (with tutorials on) and let us know when you feel ready to play, and message me your e-mail.  Since Hazat is the least developed house, and you're a new player, I suggest every other player donate resources to you that we can explain through role playing (hazat dealing with symbiot invasion or some such thing).  That'll help catch you up some economically.

Hehe, good job Kebooo! Keep track of all the important events in the game ;)

I just wanted to warn any prospective player who never had a chance to try EFS before: this game can get very time-consuming as the empires grow. Be prepared to spend around half an hour+ doing each turn, maybe not now, but in 20 turns most likely.
Also, while the game itself is very micromanagement-intensive, the most important part is what happens outside confines of the program, i.e. diplomacy. This is really the meat of the game, so I hope you're into it.

Wait, this isn't the long-lasting FFA match between maniac, Il Palzzo, Aqizzar and [random person off the planet]?

Thanks for the offer, but head has filled the spot.  If there's another opening, we'll let you know.

And no, this is a different EFS game from the one with maniac.  That topic is how I found this site.

Unfortunately, that game came to an end, without reaching any definite conclusion. We are hoping here to make this one fare better(although the previous game set crazy high standards for skulduggery and political backstabbing, I must say).

I'm still so emotionally drained from that game that I feel nervous whenever I see new posts in any of your topics.

Oh, if only I had the free time to try to get a game of this going.  I do love me some underhanded, conniving EFS. :(

If you chaps ever need a body to replace a missing player, I am willing to risk my fragile and venereal disease ridden frame for the game.

That said keep up the good work and I'm going to see if the Vau are interested in pictures of my villa...
