Ladders are absolutely essential for one reason and one reason only:

Imagine, if you will, a goblin prisoner released into a massive system of one tile wide, extremely long tunnels stacked atop each other that have stairways at each up that go upwards towards the surface; there are, at random intervals, two tile long alcoves blocked by doors with attached mechanisms. Said tunnels are filled with pressure-plates that activate the aforementioned doors allowing access to a ladder leading up, whether to the next level or even directly to freedom or, occasionally, releasing a giant snake.

Welcome, friends to Slaves to Armok III: Snakes and Ladders.

No, that's easy to sig.  You just have to reduce it slightly.

This topic makes me realize once again just how much work T is putting in. I am doubling my monthly donation starting today and I will gladly wait as long as I have to for his next release.

Lots of sigging going around here.

Yikes, the Orcs have a nasty language.  Traditional foreplay would be right out for them; how would they ever "say my name" for one another?  No wonder Ocrs are always so bloodthirsty and violent, they're getting sub-par action.

Yes, but what about the ropes? Surely they will be just as epic, especially if You Have to Cut The Rope.

Is the new release that close at hand? I thought it was somewhere around May or June. The last time there was huge release he had a bug countdown in his blog and whittled it down over a couple weeks.

He's in bug-eliminating stage at any rate, the features have been finalized apparently. He said he wasn't giving estimates this time because of how bad he'd been at making estimates on this version.

How long did the bug countdown take him last time?

Not as long as it will take him this time.  Remember, this is a MAJOR update.  The last update of this magnitude (enough to break saves) was the jump to 3d back at....I never remember if it was 23a or 32a...it was awhile ago.

I fixed up pack animals and an overall lack of minerals on the map, and 40d17 is alllmost ready. One of Zach's dwarves grew attached to his trousers. Then all of his military dwarves decided not to drink and died of thirst in the barracks while training. Then it crashed. The work continues!
(from Dev log page)

I don't think its done yet regardless of ladders.

I just had a sudden image of a dwarven reenactment of Cube.

The smell of a nearly finished dwarf fortress?

Think of what hell would smell like. Then add soap.
