The King Comes! All hail to the King, baby!
« on: January 27, 2010, 12:10:48 am »

So recently I decided to start playing what is currently, my oldest Fortress, "Eldermanor" it is also my most complete in terms of Mega project...

It had a population of about 135, and I decided to start playing it again. I cleaned up some trash, the huge mountains of Goblin bits from various sieges, started to make things nice and pretty, and then, I got my first Immigration wave in ages.

"Some Migrants arrived knowing it could be their Tomb"

Well shortly after that, I get the message "The Duchess has demanded an Obsidian table in her room"
Duchess? When did We become a Duchy?
I go to check my Nobility, and I see this...

The KING Baby! I am getting a KING "legally" Not by just mining HFS, no no, I am "EARNING" the King!!! He is coming with full escort and gaurds!  And to top it off.. Within SECONDS of me checking on the Nobility... As if the population knew what was coming, one of my Childern went Fey, annnndd...

...He made a Crown, a STEEL Crown.  Once again I am amzed by how this game behaves.

Once again I am left to say Toady is a wizard.

Yikes, the Orcs have a nasty language.  Traditional foreplay would be right out for them; how would they ever "say my name" for one another?  No wonder Ocrs are always so bloodthirsty and violent, they're getting sub-par action.

Wow well done sir. I should make achieving this a goal with the new version.

You all do know that we everytime we gen a world in DF, a new universe is created somewhere, and everytime we delete a save we kill a whole world?
Aye, we are Armok, god of blood, evil, villager gutting, fortress building, legend making and elf thongs.

The best thing about getting a king f'reals is that you can choose to 'abandon' the fortress, and instead of everyone dying off the fort will keep running.

That is a swell castle by the way. Nice use of the brook.

Now if only the Bituminous Coal could be set on fire without potentially killing your king (if he could wear it), then we would have something that looks awesome.

It looks even better in Dwarf Viz, the Central Tower is Pure Obsidian, the walls are made out of Solid Granite with a Mix of Olivine roofs and all the openings along the Castle Wall are filled with Clear Glass Windows.

Someone must Draw this NOW

A baby wearing a burning steel crown, white and green spikes, a platinum band around it covered in circles..
Oh and peridot, a big dirty green gem..

Man, I might need to start making 3d models of DF artifacts and using them for other games loot.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAT.

This brings the question can you get kings in differnt forts...

e.g.
Get a king in fort 1.

start on fort 2... can you get a king here?

and does fort 1 still continue to be running?

It'd be awesome if the king would actually take a crown and put it on his head. I have a king, and there's a raw adamantine artifact crown lying around... be nice if he wore that.

A kobold almost stole it once. I still don't know how he managed to get all the way into the stockpile, but I reckon that if the theft was successful he would have become king of all kobolds.

Turns out most of the nobles had the same room. Moreover, this same room was apparently bedroom, office, and dining room. I don't know what they thought was in this room... I do know the doors were all locked, so none of them could get IN.

Also, apparently there was a fire inside, and had been for months. I feel I should investigate this at some point.

He would have stolen an artifact adamantine scepter and gone parading around his cave, acting all high-and-mighty, better-than-thou to the ruler and local leader, and gotten speared/shot for his indiscretion.

Is it bad that when I saw the thread title I thought it meant the King was an actual baby?

I thought the same thing when I read the thread title.   :D

Also, that king isn't actually coming until you send the required offerings to him via the caravan.

Edit:  I tried abandoning a fortress with a king acquired in the normal fashion.  According to Legends, the king fled into the jungle, and everyone who was in the fortress joined a new group along with him.  It says they then settled back into the fortress, but the fortress is a ruin anyway.  When I reclaimed the ruin, it showed the previous king back in his original group and his original location.  I know it is the same Dwarf because I had nicknamed him.

Which is kind of handy. This way, you can postpone the arrival of your king in order to get everything set up properly. No unhappy king due to insufficiently awesome rooms. When everything has been made in order, offer the caravan all of those narrow cave spider silk clothes, gotten as a 'gift' from those goblins, you've been decorating with all of the cloth you've been 'given' as a gift from those friendly elves.
