I've got the general idea of the military down, although I don't really understand complex irrigation at all...

Basically I'll define newbie as someone who has yet to master all or even most of the basic components of Dwarf Fortress, which is probably a sizable number of us. I'll make the new thread in 30 minutes to an hour.

This is a useful feature..and this is DF.. so im gonna assume its bugged
That's what cages and minecart shotguns are for!  We don't need to control them.  We just need to aim them.

However, "military" essentially consists of "give people armor and let them train, telling them to kill random forest animals" for me  :P

Still, once something actually comes, I'll be prepared.

My plan is to have my dorfs subsist on gathered plants and fish for the first year, and have someone else set up irrigation the next. I can dig out all of the bedrooms and whatnot, and try to find some coal and iron ore to get the military set up ASAP. I'm planning on embarking with a Proficient Armor/Weaponsmith, and a Fisherdorf with Proficient Armor User so he can be drafted of we need to (since Fisherdorfs spend too much time fishing anyways...)

I suppose you'd like to be second, Xenos? And lolghurt said he'd like the 2nd or 3rd turn. I'll allow two more people to preregister, first come, first serve after that.
