Snow is nice!

Snow is nice for a week, perhaps less if you live in a house and need to shovel it out of your driveway and if there's more than a foot of it. A lot less if the weather fluctuates between -5 and 5 degrees C.

In the city it's simultaneously less and more horrid - less because you don't need to do anything about it personally, more because it becomes a repository of all the filth that adds up along the months. I've got a pedestrian street in my town where people walk their dogs in winter, when the snow melts it's like a road paved in dog shit.

It's why Eskimos have so many words for the stuff.

Technically it's because of they way the Inuit language works. They combine nouns and verbs and adjectives into very long compound words, kind of like German.

Really? That's fascinating. I'm gonna have to go see if there's a book of Inuit grammar in the library.

Yeah. It's basically just that the structure is [snow+modifier] instead of [modifier] [snow]. To a speaker with a native language like English it sounds like they have a bunch of different words for snow when it's really different forms of the same word.

I think finnish has about a dozen words for snow also. Wiki says theres 50 of them but I havent heard many of them in use, and many of the rest of them describe how it snows.

I got to say it's pretty great seeing performing arts stuff. I've only done music things before, but theatre seems interesting and cool to me. It looks like it takes a lot of planning and has a lot moving parts, even for solo acts.
