Of course, this does seem too advanced for the dwarves to make animatronic hands. Maybe they could just have wooden legs so they can walk again? Anything else damaged could not have a replacement.

I'd direct your attention to a Threetoe story if I remembered which one it was.  But there was a story (or many that I'm combining) where the dwarves had been pretty much enslaved by an immortality-crazed human emperor.  The dwarves were forced to craft a huge tower, and at least one prosthetic of super-awesomeness.  So fully functional prosthetics are (were) part of Threetoe's vision of dwarves, and possibly Toady's.

Adding amputation should have some logical work restrictions.  Maybe some sort of pensioning in the economy.  Replacement limbs might be something that could be done down the road, but some health facilities are a definite must.</STRONG>

That would be great. But you shouldn't be able to amputate limbs that are healthy or slightly damaged (or people would just amputate the poor hammerer into a torso with a head.).

They wouldn't anyway. A hammerer is even more deadly as a torso and head.

Maybe it would be a good thing to create a new job : "doc" or "surgeon". Depending on the "health care" task, of course.

The infirmary building is also a good idea. It would take some beds to build it, and all the wounded would be put in it, and the doc would work in it.

Sorry for the poor english, it's late. Very early in fact.

Never give a hammerer an excuse to use it's teeth.
