But they don't. IFAIK they take the specific material item selected in the build list - no matter where it's located.

Yeah, that sucks and all, but having separate entries for different stockpiles strikes me as a rather silly idea. The point behind this suggestion is that builders take the piece of rock thats closest to them, instead of mucking around with different stockpiles. It would be enough to give any dwarf a migraine!

If you are worried about two or more dwarves (dwarfs?) going for the same rocks, I'm pretty sure it would not be too hard for a dwarf to call dibs on the closest X pieces of foo within a certain distance..
