That brings up an interesting thought.  Would elves clean themselves like cats?

As a closing gesture following any particularly tense round of negotiations, the elven delegation would all cough up hairballs.

"Urist McCraftdwarf withdraws from society.  He sketches pictures of elven hairballs."

Well salvia for example is antiseptik. It would depend on the used plants.

Salvia, people, not saliva.

Salvia Divinorum?

The perfectly legal Hasheesh replacement that gives you crazy visions? That would explain why elves think the trees are their friends...

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

My bad, I misread that.

I'm pretty sure Heph meant "saliva," though, so you were probably right.

FYI, saliva isn't an antiseptik. However I don't see anything on Wikipedia about Salvia being one either.

It would be best to ask a botanist and/or an historian about the uses and effects of flower petals as soap substitutes.

There's evidence that it may be.  Unless you're just making a jab at spelling.

Only for specific strains of bacteria that tend to threaten teeth and gums, apparently. Not really useful as an antiseptik.

It's well known that the human mouth is a breeding ground for bacteria; using saliva as a disinfectant would probably propigate bacteria.
