Toady One keeps muttering "Dwarf Fortress 0.28.181.41"

Fixed

I hope it's at least a 0.29.1.1 build, this really shouldn't be a minor fix :)

Footkerchief actually did an estimate of the next releases version number over in the FotF thread back in november...

As a follow up to this, I went through the Core/Req/Bloat items to see which ones were likely to be marked as completed.

Based on this, my prediction for the next version number is DF v0.31.208.55a.  I included all of the ones I thought probable and 1/3 of the others, so it's complete BS, but hey.

It's all guessing however you slice it, but yeah, the version jump should be fairly significant.

It had some so people could get whatever they needed to off their chests. But it's basically becoming one smarmy one-liner after another now.

At a guess, one consequence of this will be that the 40d# merge gets delayed.
I seriously hope not - I consider the 40d17+ stuff (or whenever 2D got introduced) to make the game fast enough to actually be playable on my setup (thanks, Baughn, can we donate to you as well?), and if the new version doesn't include this, I'd stick with the 40d# version.

One compromise would be to release without the 40d# stuff, then do that merge as the very next thing (plus bugfixes), but there's probably some advantages in getting all the big changes that might break stuff out of the way in one release. Besides, after release, I imagine Today needs to go "On break" for a while.

I just tallied last years numbers from the announcements, you might note that febuary last year was roughly the same as this one as well, so this seems like a decent life to many at first, but I can't say I've ever checked rent in toady's area..

I'm personally living for 10800 a year roughly, but that isnt considering my tuition of 3000.
my own rent is 550 a month, I spend 100 dollars in groceries a month and have 250 spending money.
Serves me pretty well given my active life style, I do often buy things on a whim, but I dont smoke, I drink cheap if at all, and my electricity and internet are inclusive to my rent.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'll do that now actually, for a decent bacholer pad if I can find it, but if someone actually knows his actual rent disregard this.
Also does he have a car? I don't so I save bundles already there.

Looking at rents in his area here http://www.rentals.com/Washington/Bremerton-Silverdale/
I have come to a rough figure of 825$ a month for renting a fairly modest but comfortable place. (But what if he has a mortgage?)

$32516.44
-$9900.00
$22616.44
Anyone from the area have a rough grocery bill?
Insurance for the home?
Does he have any medications or health issues?
How much furniture does scamps tear up on him?
Car Insurance (if he has a car, and if not, bus pass or taxi fees?)
Does he travel anywhere out of town?
What does toady do for fun, and how much does it cost him?
Old loans to pay off?
How much can he put away for a rainy day?
How much can he put away for retirement?

If you factor that all in, money can disappear very fast.
I dont need to worry about the majority of those expenses, which is why I can afford living on $10800, and why other young people like me in college, can afford to do so.
Considering how talented he is, how much of a following he has, and all those other factors, he could be working for some big game company as a programmer making around $80000 more than the $32500 quite easily.

Anyone who thinks he is tossing our money around and not giving anything back to us is simply a fool.

I'm going to make a donation now myself, and it will be the best 20 bucks I've ever spent.

edit: I think I might also make a new thread about this to show more people the rough funds I've calculated.

Frankly I wouldn't care if he was living a life of luxury in a 5 star mansion from our donations. I donate because I value the game. Nothing else.

Can we all just let the matter drop? This discussion will not lead us to a happy place.
