(relating to Kosovo Karnage) ...and do horrible screams in the background whenever the AI blows itself up :D

No way, dude. Not only do they do that too much, but they have a very aggravating habit of stepping on a mine right near you, when you're just starting a level, so they take you both out in one rather gruesome, yet not earth-shattering kaboom.

I played it for the first time this morning and recorded my antics; this is jarathor's thread, so no link-dropping about that here. But my brief experience once again confirmed that Bay12 Curses were designed to consume your soul.

On the subject of your LPs, Grimith, I've been really enjoying your LCS LP - it has that narrative flair that works so well with games like LCS. Are you playing in Nightmare mode?

Anyway, I think today is going to be too busy to work on any LPs, but I've been thinking about trying Beneath a Steel Sky after I finish up the Bay 12 game library. I'm terrible at adventure games, but this one doesn't seem too difficult (Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy Game, anyone?).

I'm glad you're enjoying the LGWI thread, jarathor, and I am, in fact, playing on Nightmare mode. While the game is technically more challenging when you're playing Abandon All Hope, Ye Who Enter, it would be more difficult - and much more boring - to sustain my violent style of play in non-Nightmare because I would end up influencing the issues too far to the left and find very few Conservatives save in select zones/circumstances (I'd have to incite the mob to rush me at the Cable/AM Stations, for example, in order to have an orgyporgy bloodbath). Police Negotiators also make me angry, since they're moderate, and I like to avoid them for as long as I can.

Beneath the Steel Sky is a great choice for a LP. However, in the spirit of seeing you play another text-based, screw-you-over-like-Bay12-Curses game, I heartily recommend Bureaucracy.

-EDIT: Logic error needed fixin'.

Yeah, that's the one I ended up grabbing - and it's working magnificently. I'm sure everybody will enjoy the fruits of my labors. It's nothing earth-shattering, but hopefully it'll be enoyable. I'll upload the video tonight.

EDIT: And here it is! The essential failing montage for this series:

Hope you guys like it, I had fun making it.

I LOVE this montage!  Just wanted to make that clear.

Unfortunately, my 64-bit system can't run that particular piece of 32-bit software - placing it among many games that I would love to play but can't, at least not easily. Unless you know of a way to emulate a 32 bit system on a 64 bit computer (would running a virtual machine do it? I really have never dabbled in this stuff before) I'd have to run it on the only non-64 bit computer we own (a windows 98 laptop).

I LOVE this montage!  Just wanted to make that clear.

Haha, thanks! Even though it was made of fail, it was a joy to make. Hopefully with the style of games I plan on doing LPs of, I'll get to do more fail montages set to ridiculous music in the future.

Beneath the Steel Sky and Bureaucracy both could run on a MS-DOS platform, so you can use DOSBox to emulate them. That's what I use when I want to revisit many of my old DOS-related games.

Also: Did you notice the free potions you get in Towerclimb? When the game spawned me in a situation from which I couldn't escape (ledges basically too high for me to jump and reach), I decided to start pressing keys. 1-3 activate the potions you have: 1 controls Jump Potions, 2 controls Corrode Potions, and 3 controls Teleportation Potions. You start with three #1 potions, three #2 potions, and one #3 potion. That should help you be able to climb farther than ever.

Ah, I didn't realize Bureaucracy could be run under MS-DOS - I've got DosBox and I've used it before, so I should be able to do an LP of that. My copy of BaSS was from Good Old Games and was modified to run on modern platforms, so the thought of using DosBox didn't even cross my mind. Thanks!

And I did not notice the free potions in Towerclimb - that would've helped me immensely. Well, ya learn something new each day.

Anyway, I've uploaded the first episode of my Dwarf Fortress Let's Play!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SR0X0RCG-9g
(As of this posting, it's still being processed, but the quality will be far better once that's done).

I haven't made any significant progress in Star Zoo, and I'm playing through a little LCS trying to get back into the groove with that, so I thought it'd be nice to play some good old Dwarf Fortress. These take a little while to edit since I've set the important-but long bits to some music, so I won't be doing these as often, but they should be pretty fun - once I get a good amount uploaded, I'll make a new topic in one of the other forum sections about that LP specifically. That's all I've got, so keep an eye out for new updates!

EDIT: By the way, has anybody else had problems posting comments on Youtube lately? I've been trying to post a reply to a comment on one of my videos, and it isn't posting - does anybody have an idea why that might be?
Ah, forgot that Youtube doesn't allow posting of URLs in comments. =P

You'd best reassign the fisherdwarf that you got from the basic setup.  I'd suggest either assigning it as a woodcutter or miner, as you only start out with one of each, but two tools for each.  And since I'm talking so much about the fisherdwarf, I'll volunteer to take over this dwarf.

As the fisherdwarf, my long-term goal is to fish with armor and weapons, perhaps by training in hunting after gaining stat boost from working some time in another profession.  Then, when we have leather armor and my dwarf is trained in fists or hammerfighting, I go fishing!  DIE CARP DIE!

Okay yeah, I forgot to change the fisherdwarf's profession, so...
The expected has happened. Oh well!

I'll be sure to make you the next fisherdwarf - actually, doesn't the Play Now! option give you a Fish cleaner as well as a fisherdwarf?
Next episode though will be for naming dwarves, so I can sort this all out then.
Anyway, as you probably have guessed by now, the second DF LP is up, since those are much more relaxing to do than the other LPs I've been doing and/or wanting to do.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iq-Kv3D_BY

I tried some new things in this video, such as a little intro piece (accented by a quick watercolor sketch I did - I'm hoping to have a new one every once in a while to show the progress of the fort) that I'm hoping to expand a bit. Also, I tried overlaying the video with some very soft and quiet music - is this too distracting?

I hope you enjoy, and as always, please leave suggestions, comments, dwarf requests etc. here or on my channel!

Due to awesome luck, I managed to see episode 2 & 3!

Thanks for naming a dwarf after me!  If you prefer, I can also be called "Jack Euchre".  Either way is fine.

When you were saying in the third video that there were no carp in that part of the stream, I clearly saw at least one and possibly two carp.

Perhaps you can rig a grate or something to a lever for the well creation.

Workshops totally create noise, as you can see from the unhappy dwarf.  I think the noise is generated 9 squares or levels away.  I tend to seperate my workshops from bedrooms horizonally as the distance is just so much less.

As the Fish Cleaner I'll probably end up the site leader, lol.

Edit: I found my dwarf's last name to be appropriate, "Carnalbust".  I say this because of my Sage vs Sodom mod with "kinky" items and my quote.  Still most likely to become site leader.  I do not know why, but the Fish Cleaner tends to end up the site leader in "Play Now" fortresses.

I thought I had taken back my 'no carp' comment immediately afterwards - I might've accidentially edited it out though, I did record a wee bit too long on that one.

Apparently though, the DF Wiki says that Toady One has confirmed that jobs at workshops do not create any noise at all, which is totally against anything I had heard previously - if I could find that post I would, but I'm no Footkerchief.

And I have noticed an awful lot of fish cleaners do become site leaders... If he survives the year, of course.

Also, I actually laughed out loud at Carnalbust - I didn't even look at their last names... Maybe I should from now on.

Also, new Star Zoo LP is up:

Enjoy more montagey goodness!

Haha, yeah it was.

I realized after I got to Snow Cup that several of my deaths and the actions of the character who finally got the Snow Cup hadn't been recorded. That's why I was all like "I think I just destroyed a large part of the recording," if you were on the off chance wondering that.

I noticed the huge jump in footage, heard your comment, and connected the two together. Still, the viewer doesn't really need it. Folks who've been watching know what Snow Cup looks like by now.

-Edit: Also... it appears Star Zoo finally decided to break me again. *sob*
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I hate this game so much.
