Religions should have a deity they hate, that represents something they consider bad.  It can be their own creation (God/Devil), or the creation of other sentients (Goblin Demon, Or maybe elves hate a certain human god because it represents something they hate, like cutting down trees).

Not a bad idea. In fact, it seems so natural that I'd be surprised if Toady wasn't already planning it. It'd go great with the army arc, because what better reason is there for war than religion? Maybe we could even have crusades! And if you don't do enough to keep the enemies of your gods in check, your dwarves worshipping those gods would get angry.

I do think Toady is working on it.
He spoke about rudimentary diplomacy based on the ruler's personnality, territory and religion. I guess the antithesistical (never thought i would actually use this word  :p) deities and religion wars are included.
