i've got a terrifying ocean covering half the map, and not one thing has spawned in it yet, is it possible it IS LITERALLY dead?  (2 years in btw)

quiet before the storm?

I can just see a massive armada of skeletal mermen riding zombie whales crashing onto shore in the most epic battle between good and evil ever.

'Good'? Dwarves? Don't make me laugh, Dwarves are Chaotic Neutral at the best of times.

It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

/My/ dwarves are Lawful Good. Your dwarves may be chaotic neutral. But my dwarves respect their elven brethren and break no treaties.

I thought they were Lawful Neutral... How else could their Communist Utopia work, if but for strict adherence to the work schedule and notion that all their work is for the good of the collective?

Whats this nonsense about Dwarves being good or evil?  Dwarf IS their alignment.

Dwarf Fortress's Alignment System is measured on two axises:

Dwarfy and Elfy
Armok and Nature

Dwarfy means hardcore badass. Elfy is pansy-picking flower child moron.

Armok is devotion to killing things in bloody messy ways, and megaprojects. Nature is devotion to love and peace and being a pompous douche.

This is all I've figured out so far... You might point out how the two axises are practically the same. You would probably be right.

No I'm not psychic. I just know that this is dwarf fortress. and the most stupidly awesome and inexplicable thing is probably going to be the first thing to happen.
